Danish artist BREGN is the alias of singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jonas Mikkelsen who’s been making a name for himself with his unique style of alternative indie folk music. Since his 2020 single “Be Fine”, he’s been building on his catalogue of 100% DIY lo-fi music carried by his soulfully rendered vocal work and delicate writing.
With a love for vintage sounds, layered vocals and tape saturation, he makes warm and nostalgic music that’s influenced by the likes of The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Johnny Cash, The Velvet Underground and Elliott Smith. His musical mission is simple; to shine a light on the positive in the world with his lyrics and dreamy soundscapes.
Following his debut track, he followed up with the sophomore single “Raw” which painted an elysian picture of paradise with its atmospheric sound. A second single in 2021, “Wind” offered yet more catchy folk writing with BREGN’s trademark intricate sonic tapestry and catchy vocal leads.
Now he brings us his latest single with the new track “Dreaming”, which sees the artist lay down an anthemic folk piece full of melodically-charged vocal work and restrained guitar instrumentation to make a stunning composition. Commenting on the new track, he shares, “Someone close to me has nightmares. I wrote this song as a lullaby to calm this person down. I want to tell the person I am here and I care. I focus on dreaming by repeating it again and again. I try to focus on wishes rather than trying to escape from nightmares.”
