Evening Is Youth is an exciting new trio hailing from Auchland, New Zealand. Formed by frontman Connor Robinson-Pierce, Luke Lattimore and Jack Collin, the band creates their own take on upbeat indie rock music, characterised by a modern guitar sound and instantly catchy writing.
Taking influence from early 80s post punk and first-wave Britpop, Evening Is Youth also gloss their sound with electronic elements akin to MGMT, Animal Collective and M83. “Having a vast range of sounds is more interesting to us than being just a rock band,” shares lead singer Connor.
Making their introduction last year with their debut single “Did You Find Your Brain?”, they delivered an infectious indie hit in a little over two minutes with a sound that floated between frantic and whimsical.
With their thoughtful lyricism, they tackle dark and challenging themes, wrapped up in an enjoyable and memorable sound with bags of commercial appeal. On their debut single, “Did You Find Your Brain?” they took aim at the struggles with mental health, identity and self-worth that many adolescents experience in today’s world.
Having just released their eponymous debut EP, they share the second single from the new release with the track “I’m Glad I Left”. Balancing an optimistic outlook with a contrasting sense of pessimism, the song calls into question the often juxtaposing forces that dictate out actions and thoughts.
Offset by their rhythmic feel-good sound, Evening Is Youth pose just enough questions to keep listeners up at night. With “I’m Glad I Left”, the band once again show their intelligent songwriting and knack for creating exceptional indie rock songs with a deeper meaning.
