In December 2012, Pulp fans filled the Sheffield Motorpoint Arena to sing along with the common people one last time, for the bands final homecoming show. Lucky for us, the cameras were there to document it.
Pulp: A Film about Life, Death & Supermarkets is a 90 minute film following the band who hit fame and became the Kings of Britpop in the 90âs, after a rocky road to fame, with hits such as âCommon Peopleâ and âDisco 2000â, as they prepare for the show in the city where it all began. The show began with the bands home videos on a screen for fans to see as they entered the arena, including one of their first single, âEverybody’s Problem”/”There Wasâ, before the band played a fantastic set list in which they played over the curfew, thus, leading to some incredibly witty comments from Cocker.
The film includes live footage from the homecoming gig, band interviews, and appears to highlight Sheffield as the bands home, as it also includes interviews with the people of Sheffield, as well as the inspirations for the God that is Jarvis Cockerâs lyrics.
The European premiere takes place at City Hall as part of the Sheffield Doc Fest 2014 on June 7th, and features a Q&A with the band afterwards. Have no fear though, as the film will be streamed in cinemas across the country. Reviews of the previews have been glowing with praise for Director Florian Habicht, who pieced the film together, and based on the trailer below, weâre in for a treat, so donât waste time hanging about the fountain on down the road, and get booking!
