Some of Disclosure’s appeal lies in their ability to take a relatively unknown singer, use their vocals in a song, and apply it in conjunction with their signature beats and layers of bass and synth. The latest singer to collaborate on a single with the Lawrence brothers is American jazz singer, Gregory Porter whose successes have been more critical than commercial (despite several nominations at the Grammys), but this could be set to change with this latest work.
“Holding On” is the latest track to surface as a taster from Disclosure’s much-anticipated second album – the follow-up to 2013’s Settle. The duo’s production is what is most impressive with this second sip from the electronic cocktail, as the Lawrences manage to accentuate the incredibly powerful voice of Porter to the track’s betterment. The simple lyrics of “But it’s holding on / And it’s holding strong / Even though I tried to make it” that open an incredibly catchy chorus seem to describe a fight with fame while sticking to one’s principles (or any difficult relationship) which, when coupled with the trademark instrumental parts of Disclosure make for an incredible dance-oriented track.
With “Holding On” being the second taster from Disclosure’s second album (after the recent release of “Bang That”, there appears to be much to look forward to in the world of electronic music from the duo. “Holding On” is a typically Disclosure track what shares characteristics with such singles as “Latch (feat. Sam Smith)” and “White Noise (feat. AlunaGeorge)” and will be seen to build hype for the anticipated release of the electronic act’s new album.
