Following the success of their recent single ‘Shapes’, which is currently playlisted by BBC Radio Wales and has achieved press nationwide, this week sees the release of the debut EP from five piece band Tree of Wolves from Carmarthen, Wales; ‘Sleepwalking’.
The EP sees the band work with some big names on vocals and percussion, including David R Edwards (Datblygu) on ‘Ysbrydion Papur’, and John Blease (Ghostpoet) on ‘Only Love Can Save Us Now’. It’s not only vocals and percussions that the band worked with big names on either; the album was recorded at Studiowz in the heart of West Wales and produced by Tom Sinnett (Valleyers), and Owain Fleetwood Jenkins. If that isn’t big enough then wait until you hear how it was mastered by producer/engineer David Mitson! (Mitson has worked with the Rolling Stones and Michael Jackson to name drop a few!)
The EP opens with ‘Ysbrydion Papur’ (which translates to ‘Ghost Paper’); a track that perfectly defines their Welsh heritage whilst building us up for what the other four tracks on the EP have in store for us. The EP perfectly carries the bands trademark indie sound that ‘Shapes’ introduced us to. The album is full of just as much heart, energy and shimmering melodies right up until the last track ‘Sleepwalking’ brings it to a melancholic end with Laurel Canyons angelic vocals and beautifully played piano. The harmonies are incredibly impressive and shine in particular during ‘Only Love Can Save Us Now’ and ‘Sebastian’; confidently speaking, both possess the potential to be big singles.
‘Sleepwalking’ was released today (08/05/2015) and is available via the bands own Bandcamp site which you’ll find a link to below. The album is due to be officially launched at Carmarthen’s The Parrot music venue tonight, which will see the bands first live show out of a small string of tour dates.
