Single Review: ‘Where Is the Mercy’ by JJ Rosa

Originally from Greater Manchester but currently based in London, JJ Rosa is a singer songwriter set to take the UK by storm. JJ Rosa is the prodigious talent that British music has been waiting for, demonstrating remarkable talent as she effortlessly combines elements of funk and soul with her striking guitar hooks.

On December 11^th JJ Rosa digitally released her latest single ‘Where Is the Mercy’ as a touching tribute to tragedies such as the recent Paris attacks. The single is outstanding; it’s upbeat, catchy and JJ’s vocals are utterly stunning. My personal highlight is when out of nowhere comes an electrifying guitar solo! JJ is quite clearly an incredibly talented guitarist and it’s easy to see why she’s often compared to Nile Rogers and described as ‘a female Prince’.

Backed by her band, December 11^th also saw JJ perform at her single launch show at Cargo in London, with support from New York’s Ariana & The Rose – all of the proceeds from the show and profits from record sales will be going to charities aiding disaster relief.

JJ Rosa has developed quite the celebrity following; Radio X DJ and Inspiral Carpet’s Drummer Clint Boon for example described her to have ‘world class potential’. Another impressive name is Rowetta from the Happy Mondays who believes JJ to be the ‘big soulful voice’ that Manchester needs ‘to put it back on the music map’.

‘Where Is the Mercy’ is available to digitally stream on Spotify and download from iTunes – don’t forget, it’s all for a good cause! All links are at the bottom of the page, where you can also watch the beautifully poignant music video.

I for one can’t wait to catch a JJ Rosa gig in the New Year and look forward to her next release!
