London-based musician and producer Vortex Four brings us the debut release ‘A Fragile Peace’ linking up with vocalist Sarah Beresford. Deep, dark and atmospheric, the track was written out of pure frustration and sadness about the current state of the world.
Spinning a delicate and reflective sound, the poignant trip-hop sonic world of the music is paired with a visually dissonant video, shot on 3 train journeys between Kings Cross station and the South Coast of England. A range of instrumentation ideas weave around a shifting percussive construction while Sarah Beresford’s vocal lines offer a lullaby-esque and dream-like scene.
Commenting on the track, the artist offers, “There seemed to be hope a few years back – things could get better, there was opportunity to move the world forward. And then, in the course of a year or so the western world seemed to regress. The adoption of lying as a norm. Post truth, post morals, post responsibility. This song was written as reaction to the fact that suddenly many people were made aware of how fragile our lives can be. Personally and politically.”
Continuing, “It is about the aftermath of decisions we make and that ultimately, our own descent as a species may leave the world in a simpler, better place. As the song says, who would miss us when we are gone?”
