New music from Big Black Delta

Big Black Delta shares the video for ‘Vessel’, which was created by director Warren Kommers (twenty one pilots, The Neighbourhood), who was also responsible for previous single ‘Summoner’. The video first opens up with Bates against a backdrop of an empty room. In a stark comparison it unveils to a woman in a room of movement and life. A juxtopisition of worlds apart, the new track offers dark and euphoric sound, aptly suitable for end of the world.

Of the video, Bates says: “When approaching Warren about doing something for this song, he and I were both at points in our lives where we were revisiting past failed relationships and our responsibility in their failures. I sent him the song which is about me owning up to my victimhood. A few days later he had a complete pre-visual and the whole video laid out. It was a fabulous experience watching it start from a vision in his head to the final edit.”

Jonathan Bates first came to attention as frontman of Mellowdrone before joining M83’s live band. His friend Alessandro Cortini (Nine Inch Nails) encouraged him to experiment with making music on a laptop, a suggestion that instigated his long running creativity as Big Black Delta. So far, BBD have released three albums, collaborated with artists as diverse as Kimbra and Debbie Gibson, and remixed Puscifer and White Zombie.

The project has also seen Bates team up with his friends with M83: first by remixing their track ‘Midnight City’, and then by sharing remix duties on ‘Fall’ from Daft Punk‘s soundtrack to Tron: Legacy. With ‘Huggin & Kissin’, Big Black Delta earned further attention when it was used as a key element in the narrative of the Netflix smash The Sinner.
