ROS!E‘s new single “Made Myself Cry” is a candid and refreshing take on the ups and downs of teenage relationships. The 20-year-old singer and songwriter from Germany has been making music since 2018, and has already made a name for herself with her unique brand of electro-pop. Her latest release is an honest and personal account of the difficulties of not having that perfect ‘teenage romance’ that’s so often portrayed in the media.
The song opens with airy synth tones before her dreamy vocals enter to immediately set the vibe for the rest of the track. Her voice is strong and emotive, as she sings about the struggles of not having picture perfect romantic interactions or experiences in her teenage years.
As the song progresses, the beat becomes more layered and complex, building up to catchy chorus that’s sure to get stuck in your head. ROS!E’s vocal range is impressive, and she showcases her ability to hit both high and low notes with ease. The production is excellent, with each element of the track perfectly balanced and working together to create a cohesive and memorable sound.
What makes “Made Myself Cry” stand out is ROS!E’s ability to take a common experience and turn it into something unique and special. While many artists may shy away from sharing such personal details about their lives, ROS!E embraces it, and in doing so, creates a song that’s relatable and authentic. Her lyrics are poetic and well-crafted, and paint a vivid picture of what it feels like to be left out of the dating scene as a teenager.
Overall, “Made Myself Cry” is a must-listen for fans of electro-pop and honest songwriting. ROS!E’s talent as a songwriter and vocalist is undeniable, and her latest release is a testament to her unique voice and sonic vision. With its infectious melodic writing, emotive vocals and relatable lyricism, “Made Myself Cry” is a hit that’s sure to resonate with listeners of all ages. ROS!E is definitely an artist to watch, and if “Made Myself Cry” is any indication of what’s to come, we can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next.

Hey ROS!E, how’s things?
Hi! Things are quite well! Thank you for having me!
What was your biggest highlight in 2022 as an artist?
Going back to recording after taking a break and working on new music that felt like the truest version of me. And releasing my single “Pretty Lil’ Lies”. I actually wrote this song when I was 17, but didn’t release it until last year.
How did you first get into making your own music?
My dad’s a musician himself, so music has always been a big part of my life. I remember him playing some of his songs to me and teaching me how to play them and I couldn’t stop thinking that I want to write my own songs. After teaching myself how to play the piano, I started taking piano and guitar lessons. I always loved to sing, so I was very excited to record my first song when I was 8 and just fell in love with the whole process. At 13, I started writing and recording my own music.
Which artist first made a lasting impression on you?
There are many, but some of the biggest impressions were by Freddie Mercury, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga.
Which artists do you draw most inspiration from today?
Probably Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and Dua Lipa.
How else do you find inspiration for your music?
I mostly draw inspiration from my own experiences and from reflecting on them. I usually think about what kind of song I’d like to hear myself but haven’t really heard yet and then go from there.
What would you say is the perfect setting for listeners to enjoy your sound?
I think the perfect settings are watching sunsets, car rides, going for walks, in a park or starring at your ceiling in your room at 3am. Any comfortable place where you can relax and feel melancholic.
How has your sound evolved since you started out?
My music got a lot more personal compared to when I started. And with this song, I’m leaving electronica behind to explore more organic territories.
How did you find making your new single “Made Myself Cry”?
It’s one of my favourite songs I’ve ever made, it just came together so easily. I actually saw a video of someone talking about what it’s like being in their 20’s and never having dated before and I could really relate to that, so I thought why not write a song about it? So I had this idea, knew the message I wanted to get across and what I wanted to song to be like and the rest just followed.
What message did you want to get across with this release?
I wanted to capture the painful and frustrating experience of missing out on love, especially as a young person, while still retaining a sense of hope and resilience. This song is for all the hopeless romantics out there.
What artist have you been listening to most recently?
Ava Max, Taylor Swift, Sia, GAYLE and Conan Gray
What’s the main thing you want people to get out of listening to your music?
I want them to be able to relate to it and to find a sense of comfort in it.
Who would be 3 artists to headline your dream festival? And where would it be?
Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Harry Styles here in Germany would be a dream come true.
Do you have any advice for a new artist wanting to follow your footsteps?
My advice is to stay true to yourself and to not compare yourself to others. Everyone’s unique and has a unique journey.
Finally, what do you have lined up for the rest of 2023?
I’m very excited to release more music.
