Naked Face, an electronic pop duo hailing from Melbourne, Australia, brings us their latest single, “Eyes in Love”. As with their previous hits, “Eyes in Love” is a synth pop outing driven by their love of EDM and their passion for creating catchy, energetic music.
The song was written by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Steve Slik, who drew on his personal struggles with a deteriorating relationship and post-surgical opioid addiction to create the lyrics. The result is a deeply personal and emotional song that touches on themes of heartbreak, betrayal, and addiction.
Despite the heavy subject matter, “Eyes in Love” is an infectiously catchy song with a soaring vocal melody, a snapping electronic beat, and washy synth tones that create a lush and euphoric pop soundscape. From the opening notes, the song grabs your attention and doesn’t let go until the final chord.
Overall, “Eyes in Love” is an excellent addition to Naked Face’s already impressive catalogue of hit songs. It’s a testament to the band’s talent for creating memorable, energising music with a deeper emotional resonance. The song is sure to be a fan favourite and win over new listeners around the world.

Hey guys, how are things?
Good, thanks for asking! Things are going well at the moment, especially since our most recent release.
How did you first get into making your music?
Steve Slik:
I first got into writing my music at the very young age of 6. I remember my first song was a short classical piece. I then started creating my simple cord progressions based on the music my dad would show me (The Beatles, The Police, Elton John, The Killers). As I grew older and my skills on THE instruments improved, so did my songwriting. I began to incorporate more technical elements into my music, and my compositions became more refined. However, even now, I am still constantly striving to enhance my craft and create better songs. Each time I write a new piece, I focus on improving the areas where I may have fallen short in my previous work.
Which artist first made a lasting impression on you?
Steve Slik:
Definitely The Beatles. I mean, John Lennon and Paul McCartney are the greatest songwriters of all time in my opinion. They are easily the first artists to have made a lasting impression on me.
Which artists do you draw the most inspiration from today?
Steve Slik:
Recently, I have been immersing myself in the music of Twenty-One Pilots, and I have become a huge fan of their sound and aesthetic. Their unique style and infectious sound have captivated me, particularly their ability to seamlessly blend synth, piano, and drums. Additionally, I have been exploring the work of EDM/dance artists such as MEDUZA, David Guetta, Lost Frequencies, RUFUS DU SOL, Topic, and A7S. To be honest, I have been constantly listening to new music, making it challenging to name all the influences that have been inspiring me lately.
How else do you find inspiration for your music?
Steve Slik:
Most of the inspiration comes from our own experiences. Music is an expression. If I’m feeling really low, or a life event has taken place which has affected me, ill write about it. It’s also a way to connect people all around the world. It’s a beautiful thing.
What do you love about the Melbourne music scene?
We hold a deep appreciation for the artists within the Melbourne music scene, as we believe it hosts some of the most musically gifted individuals worldwide. While countless artists are playing conventional what we believe is rehashed indie rock, there are many underrated musicians, such as “The Strawbz.” The band’s lead singer possesses a divine voice that is complemented by their high-energy sound, setting them apart from the crowd. Additionally, Melbourne’s music scene boasts numerous exceptional and iconic venues, such as The Tote and Cherry Bar. However, the Covid-19 pandemic has caused significant disruptions to the live music scene.
What would you say is the perfect setting for listeners to enjoy your sound?
Our music is an energy, a mood, an atmosphere, and a feeling.
It is versatile and can be enjoyed in a range of settings. Whether you’re listening on your phone, in your car, or at home, our music is accessible to all. However, we feel that our sound is especially well-suited for party environments such as clubs, venues, nightclubs, or festivals.
How did you find making your first single âEyes in Loveâ?
Steve Slik:
Making Eyes in Love was a process we enjoyed very much. It was all written, recorded and produced by myself and my dad James in our home studio. It was written about my experiences with past relationships heartbreak, betrayal and addiction.
What message did you want to get across with this release?
Through our music, we strive to convey our personal experiences with addiction and heartbreak in a way that can be both relatable and inspiring to our listeners. Our ultimate goal is to provide a source of comfort and support to the millions of individuals who may be grappling with similar issues and reassure them that they are not alone. We hope to share a message of hope and resilience, reminding our listeners that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.
Whatâs the main thing you want people to get out of listening to your music?
The main thing we want people to get out of listening to our music is a sense of emotional connection and resonance. We hope that our music serves as a positive and uplifting force in their lives, whether it’s by energising them, bringing them joy, or helping them feel less alone and understood, bringing them comfort.
Whatâs been your favourite live show so far?
Thatâs a hard one to pick haha. Itâs tough to choose just one, as we’ve had the pleasure of playing at so many incredible venues and having unique and memorable experiences at each show. However, one of our standout performances was our headline show at The Tote Hotel. The crowd was amazing, and the energy, vibe, and overall atmosphere of the night was truly electric.
Who would be 3 artists to headline your dream festival? And where would it be?
Steve Slik:
I’d have Twenty-One Pilots, The Weekend and Metallica. The location would have to be either Summer Fest or Coachella.
Do you have any advice for a new artist wanting to follow your footsteps?
Donât ever give up. Stay driven, persistent and positive. Work hard and make sure you do everything you can to get your music out there. There may be times when you lose hope or hit rock bottom, it’s about picking yourself up from those times. Embrace failure and accept it as a part of the process to succeed. Donât worry about what people think on social media, and donât listen to hate. Self-belief and acceptance are key. Yes, sometimes I believe success does require a bit of luck, but the harder you work and the more you push your music/brand, then the greater the chance you have to âget luckyâ. Music is no good stuck on a hard drive. There are a lot of talented artists out there, it’s about breaking through the crowd.
Finally, what do you have lined up for the rest of 2023?
We have a lot of releases and massive projects up and coming for 2023. Maybe even a tour. Super excited about whatâs coming.
