Los Angeles-based indie rock outfit Rose Avenue has been going from strength to strength with their self-produced music since their early days in high school. With influences ranging from Phoenix and Hippo Campus to The Smiths, their sound is a blend of intricate guitar riffs and hook-filled writing that’s been winning over listeners around the world. Their debut full-length record, wismar, showcased their romantic sensibilities and now they’re back with a new single that takes their music to new heights.
Titled “spaceship,” Rose Avenue’s latest offering is an evolution from their debut album, fusing their earworm melodies into a danceable, pop-focused sound. The track draws inspiration from the universe created by COIN on their album Uncanny Valley, immersing the listener in a vibrant indie anthem that transports them to a daydream world. Taking cues from the infectious energy of Phoenix’s “1901” and the catchy vibes of Dayglow’s “Hot Rod,” “spaceship” showcases Rose Avenue’s ability to craft captivating and dynamic indie rock music.
The song opens with a burst of energy, immediately grabbing the listener’s attention. A grooving bass line, a snapping beat and a rhythmic guitar riff create a lively backdrop for Langdon Dearborn’s elegant vocals to float above. As the arrangement builds, spacey tones enter the mix, adding an otherworldly atmosphere before the chorus bursts with shimmering colours and infectious melodies. The combination of catchy hooks and dreamy aesthetics makes “spaceship” a sensational release that unveils a new dimension to Rose Avenue’s sonic arsenal.
“spaceship” is a decisive progression from their previous work, showcasing Rose Avenue’s growth as artists. While still maintaining their distinct sound, they’ve embraced a more pop-oriented style with wide appeal. The song’s bright and upbeat nature invites listeners to escape, fully immersing themselves in the indie-galactic trip that Rose Avenue’s created.
With their distinct musical style and undeniable talent, Rose Avenue continues to carve a unique path in the indie rock scene. As they explore new territories and experiment with different sounds, Rose Avenue’s music remains authentic and compelling, offering a fresh take on the indie genre.
As the band continues to charm audiences with their stunning melodies and meaningful lyrics, they confirm their status as one of the most promising acts in the indie rock scene of Los Angeles and beyond. “spaceship” is just a glimpse of what Rose Avenue has in store for the future, and it’s an exciting journey that fans will undoubtedly want to be a part of.
Commenting on first making the single, Langdon Dearborn shares, “There was this really wild fuzzy guitar sound I got by turning an old amp up to ten. It was a challenge to turn that into a song, but we really wanted to get a melody stuck in people’s heads and make them dance.”
