London-based artist and multi-instrumentalist Domax has been steadily carving out his niche in the music scene. Since the release of his debut EP, Act, in April last year, he’s consistently impressed with a series of exceptional musical offerings. Drawing inspiration from iconic figures like Kraftwerk, Squarepusher and the Cocteau Twins, Domax’s sonic signature is a delightful blend of avant-garde and forward-thinking electronic music.
Domax’s association with the London-based record label, HolyShift, is worth noting. This collective of 12 artists has a monthly residency at the Vinyl Cafe in Kings Cross and their shared mission revolves around fostering a new music scene in London built on collective support and collaboration.
Now, Domax presents his latest musical offering in the form of the new EP titled Element. This four-track collection initially started out as a demo file for a live performance, yet it evolved to take on a life of its own. It deftly stitches together the artist’s favourite components from his six previous releases, reimagining them into fresh tracks, featuring Nathan Curran on drums.
The EP kicks off with “Chrome,” immediately flooding your senses with an electrifying burst of energy. Lively drums provide a foundation for a swirling symphony of sonic textures and vivid synth stabs. The track dives into a continuous and rhythmic exploration, punctuated by breakbeat rolls that add colour throughout.
The title track, “Element,” follows suit, delivering a potent concoction of punchy beats and playful synth lines. Domax crafts an entrancing atmosphere, perfect for those seeking a dance-infused experience. It’s a showcase of his stunning command in synth composition and an embodiment of rhythmic exuberance. “Dlr” ventures into a grooving sonic territory, blending organic textures with buzzing digital elements. Driven by a rhythmic drum shuffle, this track drips in an infectious funkiness that’s bound to get listeners moving.
The EP concludes with “Lotus,” a multifaceted dance creation brimming with soft synth tones. Delicate electronic embellishments juxtapose the relentless beat, creating a hypnotic listening experience. The song navigates through various vibe shifts, energies and moods, culminating in an unforgettable electronic journey to conclude his superb new EP.
