Purveyors of dream pop, Maida Rose reigns as a captivating duo hailing from The Hague in The Netherlands. Made up of the talents of Javièr den Leeuw and Roos Meijer, Maida Rose has been celebrated for their immersive and emotive sound, which trips into the themes of self-discovery, personal growth and the myriad challenges of young adulthood. With lush guitar melodies, alluring vocals and ethereal soundscapes, their music presents a unique offering in the indie music landscape.
The duo’s debut album, Tales of Adolescence, dropped last year to deliver a journey through the ups and downs of coming of age. Now, Maida Rose charms us with their latest release, the new single titled “Anymore.” This track is the second release lifted from their forthcoming EP, Philia, a project that commemorates a decade of creative partnership between Javièr and Roos.
“Anymore” opens with an understated elegance, a gentle downtempo rhythm of bass plucks echoing in the depths of a vast ocean of sonic waves. The delicate, hushed vocals of Roos Meijer make their entrance, casting an atmospheric spell reminiscent of slowcore-style alternative pop with the ambiance channeling the somber and entrancing aesthetics of artists like Cigarettes After Sex.
As the song unfolds, the arrangement ascends with the introduction of tender piano tones that elevate alongside Roos Meijer’s ethereal vocals. “Anymore” is a beautifully dreamy composition, weaving an intricate emotional tapestry that speaks directly to the listener’s heart. The song’s intimacy and vulnerability shine through, creating a space for contemplation and reflection.
“Anymore” covers profound themes, addressing the weight of existence and the complexities of supporting a loved one who is grappling with the burden of their own inner turmoil. Maida Rose’s musical storytelling is on full display, as they unveil the dance between extending a helping hand to someone in need while navigating the precarious precipice of one’s own emotional fragility.
Not only a display of their musical talent, “Anymore” also reaffirms their ability to touch the soul with raw emotion. With Maida Rose, listeners are invited on a compelling journey through the contours of the human experience and “Anymore” is a stunning taste of what their forthcoming EP has to offer.
