Halina Rice is an electronic music producer and groundbreaking audio-visual artist who stands at the crossroads of art, music and technology. Known for her vivid and experimental style, Rice’s work spans from avant-garde soundscapes to beat-driven tracks, creating immersive experiences that completely captivate your ears and eyes.
With a career marked by sold-out live shows at iconic venues like Abbey Road Studios and Copeland Gallery as well as playing festivals such as Sonica Arts Festival, Rice is an artist who consistently explores the fringes of electronic music and visual art.
Now, after releasing her new EP titled NEW BASIS, which premiered live at London’s Village Underground on 3rd October, she brings us the perfect experience of her creative output with the title track “NEW BASIS.”
With “NEW BASIS,” Halina Rice serves up an astonishing avant-garde electronic composition. Glistening synth textures in constant flux, shifting in timbre and modulating in tone, pulse away to form a hypnotic soundscape as intricate percussive shots patter away.
At once minimal and energising, “NEW BASIS” is a stunning display of deconstructed club music exploration wrapped in exquisite sound design. This juxtaposition of minimalism and energy is a hallmark of Rice’s style, and it shines brilliantly in this track.
Paired with the music are the mind-bending visuals, a collaborative effort between Rice and visual artist Freny Antony. These visuals take 3D scans of natural objects and transform them into an elegant and unfamiliar accompaniment to the music. The process involves altering and distorting the scanned data, leading to the creation of new forms that seamlessly intertwine with Rice’s sonic landscape.
With upcoming live shows at Nottingham’s Rescue Rooms on Thursday 12th October and at Summerhall in Edinburgh on Friday 17th November, she shares, “My main focus is to present compelling, emotive and innovative music and visuals in order to move the audience outside of their day to day experience. I want people to come away from the shows feeling inspired.”
