Based in the city of Cologne, Germany millhope is a newcomer producer and composer who intricately weaves instrumental soundscapes that serve as portals to realms of daydreams, curiosity and hope. His musical canvas is daubed with catchy synth melodies, lofty guitar lines, punching drums and deep bass, collectively crafting a sonic journey through enveloping landscapes.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of Tycho’s Dive, Genesis’s Abacab, Coldplay’s Jonny Buckland’s guitar lines and Muse’s synth arpeggios, millhope stands at the crossroads of chillwave, ambient rock and downbeat electronic genres. His music promises to be the perfect soundtrack for moments of daydreaming and idle contemplation.
Earlier this year, millhope unveiled his musical identity with the debut single “Illusion,” followed by a series of tracks that showcased his original sound. Now, he brings us his latest release, the brand new single titled “Prototype.”
His fourth single lifted from his upcoming debut record titled “Truth&Dare,” set to drop next spring. the track sees millhope link up with singer Jenny Thiele. Opened by the spacey flutter of synth tones and samples of birds tweeting, soft pulses of Jenny Thiele’s voice pepper the arrangement with bright melodic ideas to craft a dreamy intro.
As the drums kick in, performed by Alex Höffken, the driving snap carries the rhythm with warm bass notes as the intricate layers of dance above. It’s a truly enveloping soundscape that sees millhope channel the slick electronic groove of artists like Emancipator.
The crisp tones of the synths give way to organic textures of acoustic guitar plucks, crafting a composition that delicately weaves between moods and energies. Rising to a dazzling crescendo that sees the colourful array of electronic instrumentation capped by elegant plucked guitar notes, it’s a stunning example of millhope’s unique sonic vision and further builds the excitement for his forthcoming debut record.
Commenting on his artistic expression, he shares, “I think there is a connection between the way you play your instrument or create an arrangement and the way you speak and formulate sentences.”
