Coming out of Brooklyn, Social Creatures is an indie rock quartet formed by Canadian singer and multi-instrumentalist Jono Robertson, guitarist Daniel Lazari, bass player Jacob Ott and John Patrick Roach on drums. Since their formation in 2018, the band has crafted a distinct sound that fuses danceable rhythms with vulnerable lyricism, peppered with bursts of raw rock energy.
They first unveiled their sound last year with their debut single titled “Blue Lips,” followed by two more tracks in the build up to their self-titled debut album released via BonFire Records. The album, packed full of analogue synths, nostalgic guitar riffs and grooves, caught the attention of fans and tastemakers alike, earning several tracks a place on Apple Music’s New in Alternative curator playlist.
Having embarked on a national tour, Social Creatures played 40 cities, sharing stages with acclaimed acts like They Might Be Giants, The Allman Betts Band and The Wild Things. This year they returned with the follow up to their debut record with the single “Nothing Changes” which was featured in Spotify’s Fresh Finds – Rock editorial playlist.
Now they bring us their latest release with their brand new single titled “All At Once,” a dazzling indie rock outing that’s at once moving and cinematic. This new single, the second glimpse into their forthcoming sophomore album, possesses a quality of timelessness, narrating the story of a lifelong romance.
Opened by soft piano notes, floating in a delicate sonic atmosphere, Jono’s elegant vocal leads glide in carrying emotive lyricism via beautiful melodic leads, capturing the timeless aesthetic and grandiosity of songs like “Black Gives Way To Blue” by Alice in Chains. Building up the anticipation, the crash of the drums ushers in the full band sound. Capped by bright piano tones, snapping drums and sliding bass lines form a gently driving energy as Jono’s voice soars above.
The recording of the song also forms a unique mosaic of different creative snapshots, with various parts written and recorded throughout the last three years, captured in studios spanning New York City, Boston and upstate New York. To celebrate the release of “All At Once,” Social Creatures are set to perform at The Hotel Utah in San Francisco, part of a tour that includes dates in Los Angeles, San Diego, and Phoenix Arizona. This live showcase promises to bring the captivating sound of their music to the stage, allowing audiences to experience the band’s new material.
