Hailing from the Central Coast, Australian producer Jake Edwards, under the moniker Jantoje, brings us a refreshing blend of indie dance and house music. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Rufus Du Sol, Hayden James and Odesza, Jantoje has been steadily making waves in the music scene with his original sound.
In 2019, Jantoje introduced himself to the world with his debut EP Found, showcasing his talent for crafting captivating pop-focused electronic music. Since then, he’s continued to win over listeners with a string of well-received singles and EPs, confirming his status as an artist to watch.
Following the release of his exceptional Blind EP towards the end of 2020, Jake took a brief hiatus from music. However, he’s been diligently working on new music and now announces the arrival of his forthcoming EP, Verano, set to drop in January via Mammal Sounds Records.
Offering a preview of what’s to come, Jantoje links up with Canadian duo Beach Season to bring us the invigorating single “Runaway.” Consisting of Sam Avant and Simon Blitzer, Beach Season explores the intersection of R&B and electronic pop, resulting in their own unique style.
Lifted from the upcoming three-track EP, “Runaway” serves up an infectious synth pop sound. Opened by soft synth textures and distant vocal sample shots over a gentle kick drum, Beach Season’s alluring vocals enter to thread blissful melodies as the drums build up. Launching into a euphoric dance pop chorus, Beach Season lay down instantly catchy melodies which the drums craft a shuffling groove.
It’s an upbeat and energising electronic pop outing that’s guaranteed to put a smile on anyone’s face. Commenting on the single, Jantoje shares, “Whilst writing Runaway, I was listening to 90’s and early 00’s house music with the classic M1 piano sounds. I wrote a demo using some of those sounds, but it originally had a vocal chop over it. The Beach Season boys got involved as I sent them another demo, but they top – lined over the Runaway demo instead. These boys kill it every time!”
