In 2018, the musical collaboration of Bert Jung and Charel Geimer gave rise to Alfalfa, a project that symbolises growth and a renewed commitment to exploring new soundscapes. Previously known for their exploits with Los Dueños, Jung and Geimer have evolved with Alfalfa, a collective that reflects their musical journey from local scenes to global audiences.
Navigating the creative challenges imposed by the pandemic, Geimer and Jung regrouped, channeling their experiences into an inspiring songwriting journey that defines the essence of their new EP. Supported by bassist Eric Junker, Alfalfa draws inspiration from a diverse range of artists, from the poetic lyricism of Bob Dylan to the genre-blending style of Milky Chance and the passionate energy of Foo Fighters.
The journey began in 2018 with the debut single “Lift Me Up,” establishing Alfalfa’s presence with a promise of fresh and eclectic sounds. Now, the highly-anticipated self-titled EP is unveiled, a seven-track musical diary capturing the emotional rollercoaster of the pandemic era. Filled with electrifying electro-pop tunes and uplifting melodies, Alfalfa’s EP emerges as a sonic innovator, ready to ignite dance floors and brighten spirits.
The Alfalfa EP stands as a shining example of their enduring spirit and the extraordinary times they’ve lived through. From the upbeat guitar and smooth vocals of the opening track “Hanging Out On Clouds” to the intricate arrangement and emphatic writing in “Head Under Water,” the EP showcases the breadth of their sonic vision. Each track is a distinct chapter, contributing to the overall narrative of the EP.
“Hanging Out On Clouds” invites listeners into Alfalfa’s world with bouncy guitars and captivating vocals, while “Head Under Water” captivates with its impactful lyrics and intricate arrangement, demonstrating the duo’s ability to blend electronic and acoustic elements in a dazzling fashion. The EP concludes with “Tried,” a track that not only highlights Alfalfa’s musical prowess but also delivers meaningful lyricism against a poignant backdrop.
The diverse influences and musical explorations showcased in each track attest to the duo’s commitment to crafting a unique and engaging sound. As they invite listeners on this enchanting ride, Alfalfa leaves an indelible mark with an EP that’s at once a reflection of their artistic evolution and a celebration of the extraordinary journey they continue to embark upon.
Commenting on the EP, they share, “The EP is kind of a musical diary, capturing emotions, challenges, and growth we faced during lockdown times. We want to express our creativity, resilience, and the bond we share that fuels our passion for making music together.”
