As far as genre-fluid artists go, Nashville-based maestro Orwello, the artistic banner of Lawrence Behrs, presents a truly superb sonic offering. A globetrotter, producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Orwello stitches the threads of his extraordinary life into the sonic fabric he creates.
Orwello’s story is one of resilience, shaped by a difficult childhood in an orphanage, a life filled with adventures across the globe, a battle with cancer and triumphant recovery, the poignant dance with loss and an abundance of love. It’s a tale that breathes life into his music, infusing it with authenticity and a celebration of the highs and lows that constitute our daily lives.
Grounded in deep grooves and beats, Orwello draws inspiration from a diverse array of genres, including future soul, hip hop, R&B, jazz and blues. His compositions are a blend of organic and digital instruments, creating a lush and immersive soundscape that shine with sonic charm.
Now bringing us the first official taste of his sonic vision, he shares the debut track “Golden Gate,” a laid back soulful pop jam brimming with smooth melodies, alluring vocals, grooving rhythm and stunning musicianship, inspired by a poignant moment of a first kiss overlooking San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge. Opened by the gentle snap of drums, soft pulsing bass and silky vocal leads performed by the talented singer Celyah, the artists craft a hazy downtempo cut that wraps you up in an immersive sound driven by hip hop-inspired vibes with alternative R&B aesthetic.
Capped by sensational saxophone leads, “Golden Gate” sees Orwello make a stellar artistic entrance with a worthy first outing. “Golden Gate” serves as an international showcase to artistic unity. The track’s creation spans continents; written and produced in Nashville by Orwello, Celyah’s vocals recorded in Amsterdam, audio mixed in London, album art crafted in Munich and a music video brought to life by a director from Ukraine, now based in Los Angeles. Setting the bar high for his future releases, we can’t wait to see what else he’s got in store as he shares more of his compelling sonic output.
