Swedish electronic artist Joel Forsberg first started to craft his sonic output with the guitar, eventually leading him to the expansive sphere of synth-based music, where he discovered the limitless possibilities that the style offers. His bold approach in exploring unconventional sounds and blending acoustic and electronic techniques have seen him strike a chord with listeners around the world over the last few years.
Crafting beautiful compositions, regardless of the sonic context, defines his artistic ethos. Having made his debut in 2016 with the EP Se ut, Forsberg has since released multiple singles, EPs and two full-length records.
Following a brief hiatus after dropping his sophomore album Det lilla klivet, det stora rivet in 2022, he kicks off the new year with a brand new single. Bringing us his latest release, he shares the track titled “Nattens vingar,” which translates to Wings of the Night in English.
The much-anticipated single showcases Forsberg’s evolution as a producer and his dedication to capturing a sound he has envisioned for years. Opened by the airy stretch of soft synth textures, the gentle strike of drums ushers in the plucky twang of a looped guitar, crafting a delicate and subtly uplifting sound.
Pitched and processed vocal samples back up a smooth top line, resulting in a hypnotic and immersive soundscape that allows you to get completely lost in this mesmeric slice of downtempo instrumental electronic music. Driven by the punchy shuffle of drums and progressing with an array of synth tones, “Nattens vingar” marks a welcome return for this superb producer.
