Artist Manneto‘s name is rooted in Mozambican heritage, translating to ‘Steel that cannot be broken,’ symbolising resilience and strength. It’s a fitting moniker for an artist who embodies these qualities in his music. Born in Belgium and raised predominantly in Ghana, Manneto’s multicultural background infuses a rich blend of Zambian and Mozambican influences into his artistic identity.
The seeds of Manneto’s musical journey were planted early, nurtured by his mother’s eclectic taste that spanned Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin and James Brown. Singing became his emotional refuge during challenging times, yet fear held him back from sharing this talent.
In 2017, he cast aside discouragement, bravely embracing his dream and unveiling his musical vision to the world. His debut single “Twilight House” arrived in 2018, marking the beginning of a musical exploration that’s since seen him release multiple singles and collaborate with artists like Masai Jr.
After a three-year hiatus, Manneto returns triumphantly with “Want Me,” a collaborative effort with Dutch artist Amber Mo. The track not only marks Manneto’s reintroduction but also distils his evolution as an artist, blending R&B and pop influences into a vibrant composition.
Opened by the soft plucks of warm guitar tones, Manneto’s elegant vocals glide in as airy clicks set the rhythmic anchor. The rattle of trap-style hi hats enters to build the energy before the thump of kick sets up the full groove as Amber Mo’s alluring voice comes in to weave among Manneto’s stunning vocal leads.
Crafting a moving alternative R&B scene, the pair deliver a mesmeric collaboration that reveals their sonic chemistry and the perfect balance between their vocals. Delicately punchy beats, pulsing bass notes, intricate instrumentation and catchy vocals leads all collide on this sensational new track that sees Manneto make an exciting return in spectacular fashion.

What’s your earliest memory of making music?
One of my earliest and fondest musical memories dates back to my teenage years when I was part of a group called H4M, which stood for Heart For Music. We were a group of enthusiastic musicians, and I distinctly remember the fervent belief we shared—that our collective talent would pave the way for something extraordinary. Looking back, it’s a cherished chapter that fueled my unwavering dedication to music.
Which artists do you draw most inspiration from?
I draw inspiration from the creative genius of Masego, Labrinth, and the iconic Michael Jackson.
How else do you find inspiration for your music?
My inspiration springs from life itself—my personal encounters, the experiences of my friends, and the simple act of stepping outside. The world around me is my muse. Music became my sanctuary, a coping mechanism in the face of life’s challenges.
What was your highlight of the year for 2023?
Premiering the ‘Officially Depressed’ music video was a proud moment, embraced by an incredible audience. Working with Black Culture as a producer for the first time in Amsterdam was an enlightening experience. Their talent is exceptional, and I’m eagerly anticipating our next collaboration. That was my higlight of 2023.
What do you love about the Antwerp music scene?
I’m continually thrilled by discovering exceptional talents that resonate with me, and I’m eagerly looking forward to collaborating with them on future projects.
What would you say is the perfect setting for listeners to enjoy your sound?
If there’s a perfect setting to immerse in my music, it’s during nighttime drives—cruising through the city or along the open highway, wherever the road takes you.
How has your own style and sound evolved since you started out?
I tried to emulate my heroes when I was younger, and now I write songs that are about me and my experiences. When it comes to singing, I have more control now and I just know what I want. I know what I need from a production. I’ve learned to allow my soul to seep through; it’s my 6th sense.
Who would be your dream artist to collaborate with?
My dream artists to collaborate with are those featured on my EP and upcoming singles—stay tuned for exciting releases in 2024!
How did you find making your new single “Want Me”?
Two nights in Amsterdam sealed the completion of the song for me. It was not just an interesting experience but also a significant learning curve in the journey of creating music.
What message did you want to get across with this release?
In my song, I explore the intricate dynamics of relationships, the tug-of-war between desires, and the complexity of emotions. It delves into the entwined nature of toxicity and sensuality, highlighting the challenges of not knowing what you truly want while in a relationship.I see it as an opportunity to raise awareness about the intricate nature of relationships through my music.
How was it linking with Amber Mo on the song?
We crossed paths briefly during the recording phase of the song. However, I had the chance to spend a day getting to know her better while working on the production of the promo videos for ‘Want Me’.She was fantastic to work with! Attentive, always eager to listen and learn. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience!
What artist have you been listening to most recently?
I’ve been to listening to Sampa The Great and Omah Lay.
What’s the main thing you want people to get out of listening to your music?
I want people to sense that despite living seemingly separate lives, we’re interconnected. We share similar experiences that bind us together, and it’s important to acknowledge that it’s okay to feel, to talk. We’re in this together.
Who would be 3 artists to headline your dream festival? And where would it be?
Dead or Alive? The festival will definitely take place somewhere in Africa. Sampa the great, Labrinth and Omah Lay.
Do you have any advice for a new artist wanting to follow your footsteps?
My advice is simple: Don’t follow my footsteps. Find your unique path, your own voice. Discover yourself, be true to yourself, and let your authenticity shine through.
Finally, what do you have lined up for 2024?
I’m gearing up to release my first EP! Shows are in the pipeline, and there are some amazing features lined up! I can’t wait for what’s ahead!
