Helsinki-based trio Aves, formed by musicians Antti Ojala, Joonas Hakava and Eino Anttila, has been making their mark with their own brand of dreamy synth pop music. Their unique sound has struck a chord with listeners around the world, showcased by their collaboration with Icelandic artist JFDR, which surpassed the milestone of 1 million streams. Their global recognition soared with the success of “Doubt,” featuring Danish collaborator Lydmor, which premiered on BBC Radio 6 Music by Lauren Laverne.
Markus Perttula, a Helsinki-based singer-songwriter, brings his own musical journey to the collaboration. His background in classical double bass studies has been filtered through influences from alternative rock and soulful artists like Jeff Buckley, Muse, Radiohead and Patrick Watson. His diverse experiences, from classical concerts to gigs with bands like Rooxx and Sans Parade, attest to his versatility as a musician.
Now the two Finnish artists link up on their new collaborative single titled “Silent Solitude,” an epic slice of mesmeric indietronica. Slowly building with the rise of pulsing synth tones, driven by the soft rhythmic clicks, a distant vocal loop rises with the swell of the arrangement before the laid back shuffle of the drums of groove of bass inject mellow energy to the soundscape.
As the drums drop out the airy falsetto vocal leads drift in, threading lofty melodies above the delicate sonic fabric. Bringing the full groove back in, the artists craft an immersive and catchy outing full of memorable writing, floating sonic ambience and subtly danceable rhythm. It’s a superb collaboration that sees two different artistic visions collide to deliver a sensational new cut.
With a new record on the horizon for Aves, the album titled Transformations promises a run through of their unique approach to music and pioneering sound, capturing the latest snapshot of their continued artistic evolution. The album will feature a host of collaborations from various artists, each adding their own sonic flair to the musical world of Aves.
