Californian native Soren Hansen has now stepped into the spotlight as a solo artist and though he might be new to this chapter of his journey, he’s no stranger to success in music. Co-founding the platinum-selling alternative pop outfit New Politics, Soren has enjoyed multiple hit records and a decade-long world tour. However, more recently he found himself in Nashville, where he made a name for himself behind the scenes as a songwriter and producer, collaborating with artist across various genres.
Despite his success, Soren found himself drawn back to certain songs that felt too personal to let go. Reflecting on the highs and lows of childhood, the loss of his mother and the winding path that led him to the present, these songs became the foundation of his upcoming self-titled debut album, Søren Hansen, set to drop later this year via the ENCI Records imprint.
“I never thought I would be on stage ever again. Suddenly, I started getting the urge. I created some songs I really loved, and I was proud enough of this music to want to play it live. That was the whole reason for getting into this project—to process all of those thoughts. There were things I was sorry about and things I was happy about. Finally, there was a place I could put them. Even if it was merely a folder on my desktop, that was enough for me. It was incredible to go back and be an artist again,” he shares.
Now sharing the first taste of his output as a solo artist, he brings us his debut single titled “Dream That I Die,” a song written while flying home to California when the line “why is it I always dream that I die” appeared and provided the creative spark. The next he he linked up with writers Weidema and Paul Devincenzo to pen the full song.
Kicked off with guitar chokes, a sombre indie rock scene takes home as pulsing bass notes and splshy drums form the laid back rhythm. Dipping down the instrumentation, his smooth vocal leads enter to spin poignant lyrics that reflect on struggling with anxiety.
Raising the energy, the song launches into an anthemic chorus full of crunchy guitars and soaring vocals, channeling the pop-tinged, gritty indie rock aesthetic of band like Sterophonics. Led by stunning vocal hooks and backed by an energising guitar-driven arrangement, it’s a sensational track that announces Soren Hansen as an exciting new solo artist while building up the hype for his forthcoming debut full-length record.
