Coming out of London’s music scene, ELZON is a talented artist originally hailing from Kuwait and of Indian descent, who’s been adding his unique voice to the alternative R&B sphere. Starting out writing for other artists, he started working with Grammy-nominated producer Ammar Junedi and underground R&B producer CASSO! to produce a sample pack which led to production and writing credits with artists such as Abby Jasmine and Sewerperson, among others.
Having always been passionate about the arts, he had to square his more conservative desi background with his desire for creative expression. Eventually he took the first steps as a solo artist, revealing his original sonic vision to the world and making a mark with his music.
First making his entrance back in 2021 with his debut single “Make Love,” he’s since followed up with a string of well-received singles over the years, including linking up with artists such as Dark Eye and CASSO! on collaborative tracks. ELZON’s breakout 2022 single titled “is he home” saw him win over fans around the world via placements on multiple editorial playlists by Spotify which caught the attention of key industry players now keen to work with the rising artist.
Now he brings us his most ambitious release to date with his brand new debut EP titled C U SOON, featuring production from his friends and collaborating artists such as Ammar Junedi, who’s previously worked with Ariana Grande, CASSO! who’s credits include Ye Ali TYUS, and Nic Dreams who produced for 4batz. Across its six tracks, ELZON serves up the perfect run through of his shimmering alternative R&B style cut with hip hop influences that recounts the tale of a romantic situation that left the artist questioning the seriousness of the relationship, captured in an arcing storyline throughout the release.
Opened by “In Your Feelings,” a glistening electronic scene takes hold with the laid back snap of drums, swirling reversed textures and airy vocalisations. With a tempo and pitch switch up half way, it’s a slick one minute long intro piece that grabs your attention and sets up the whole release.
“Is He Home” starts with bright guitar flutters, backed by hushed synth tones before ELZON’s stunning falsetto vocals glide in over a grooving beat. Crafting a catchy and sultry R&B aesthetic, the track lays down the perfect example of the artist’s engaging sound, poignant storytelling lyricism and expressive vocal panache.
Next up, “Amuse” drops a mellow beat as warbling instrumental tones and vocal samples melt into the backdrop capped by ELZON’s soulful voice. Stitched with smooth dynamic rise and fall, the artist spins his smooth vocal delivery that bends from elegant melodic stretches to sharp rhythmic flows.
“Make U Rain” casts an atmospheric sound with an experimental approach where sparse percussive shots and rattling rhythmic accents creates a minimal arrangement for ELZON’s alluring vocals, layered with lush backing lines and pitched shots. Developing with gentle detuned piano tones, it’s a superb display of the artist’s knack for crafting a sound that’s at once accessible yet entirely original.
On “Selfish” ELZON links with CASSO! for an anthemic and subtle danceable track that blurs dreamy instrumental styles with a thumping beat. Snaking vocal lines colour the immersive sonic canvas with blissful melodies and emotive songwriting to craft a sensational collaboration peppered with intricate synth lines. The EP closes with “Who Am I” where a hazy sound of delicate instrumental tones and beautiful vocal flourishes give way to another rewind to usher in a slowed and pitched down rendition to bring the incredible new debut EP from ELZON to a stellar conclusion.
