Based in London’s music scene, New York-born electronic pop singer-songwriter Sofi Vonn is an exciting artist, blending deep lyricism with catchy melodies to craft a sonic output that distils the complexities of youth. A storyteller at heart, Vonn’s musical journey is marked by a profound connection to her creativity which shines brightly in every track she unveils.
Making her debut in 2021 with the release of “Stranger,” Sofi Vonn quickly became a notable presence in the industry. Following her debut, she has continued to captivate audiences with multiple singles, acoustic renditions, remixes and the EP THAT WAS A CLOSE CALL.
A significant moment in Sofi Vonn’s career was the collaboration with Chapters, known for their work with artists like Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Holder and Madonna, on the co-production of “Losing Control.” The song’s music video has found a spot in MTV’s rotation, showcasing her ability to blend electronic pop with poignant storytelling. The remixes of the track climbed to #4 on Music Week’s commercial pop chart, confirming Vonn’s status as a rising force in the pop landscape.
As her musical journey unfolds, Sofi Vonn continues to make an impact with her original sound. Her single “Famous” found a place on McDonalds UK’s TikTok and the corresponding remix EP peaked at #6 on the Music Week Commercial Pop Chart. Now she brings us her latest release with her first single of 2024 called “Contagious.”

Following her last release, a cover of Sophie B. Hawkins’ “Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover,” Sofi was invited by Hawkins to perform the song on stage with her in London. After that performance and the experience of connecting with a new audience, Sofi decided to set her sights on crafting a gay girl anthem.
“Contagious” is a celebration of queer love wrapped up in an infectiously catchy alternative pop setting. Opened by bright instrumental plucks, Sofi’s elegant vocals glide in, floating in an airy atmosphere as she threads heartfelt lyricism that recounts a personal romantic experience. Gentle percussive elements build up the tension before the song slips into a grooving pop outing driven by shuffling drums, instantly memorable melodic lines and distant vocal samples that back up Sofi’s stunning lead voice.
At once delicate and anthemic, “Contagious” is an aptly titled single that sees Sofi Vonn serve up an intoxicating slice of her original sonic vision. Both accessible and original, it’s a charming song that’s impossible not to love as Sofi kicks off her 2024 with a sensational new release.
We caught up with Sofi Vonn to find out more about her musical journey so far, her new single “Contagious” and what she’s got lined up for the future. Check out our interview with Sofi Vonn below.
Hey Sofi, how’s things?
Hi! Good, super busy recently but in a good way!
What’s your earliest memory of making music?
My earliest memory of writing a song would be in high school, and my first time attempting to produce something was in college. It was only really after college when I started taking it more seriously, teaching myself how to properly produce when I started DJing.
Which artists do you draw most inspiration from?
This always changes as I draw influence from many different styles of music.
At the moment I’ve been into Caroline Polachek, Lauv & Sza.
How else do you find inspiration for your music?
A lot of the time it’ll come from my own emotions. When I’m not inspired in that way, sometimes melodies will just come to mind as I’m out and about in my own thoughts. I also like to listen to a lot of different styles of music and pinpoint which parts evoke certain emotions in me and why. I think since I’m not classically trained, it’s gives me a freedom which allows me to just write what feels good rather than what’s technically correct.
What was your highlight of the year for 2023?
Performing my cover of “Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover” with Sophie B. Hawkins herself in London! Otherwise having my music video for “Losing Control” on MTV was super cool.
What do you love about the London music scene?
I love how many different opportunities there are. Performing at pubs is fun as you’ll always meet new artists who are on the lineup with you and have that fan crossover. There are also so many different industry events which are good for networking. I’ve met many collaborators that way.
What would you say is the perfect setting for listeners to enjoy your sound?
That may vary. Some fans have messaged me that they like to listen in the car. The new stuff I’m working on will definitely be more of a chilling with friends vibe.
Who would be your dream artist to collaborate with?
In the pop world Justin Bieber. Sorry but he is so versatile. Bieber fever never dies. In the more electronic scene, A. G. Cook would be sick.
How did you find making your new single “Contagious”?
I really enjoyed it. I produced and wrote the demo myself and then finished it with Simon Jay, Luke Shrestha & Justin Tinucci in LA. We had a lot of fun coming up with riffs and adlibs to polish it off.
What message did you want to get across with this release?
I wanted to show how fundamentally, queer love is no different to any other kind of love. I guess it worked because a lot of editors I pitched to replied thinking I was a guy talking about a girl.
What artist have you been listening to most recently?
The Japanese House, Troye Sivan, Caroline Polachek, Sza, Ryan Beatty
What’s the main thing you want people to get out of listening to your music?
I want people to feel less alone in their thoughts and struggles. For me, there was so much confusion not only about my sexuality growing up, but also what I now know as anxiety and how that impacted me daily.
What’s been your favourite live performance so far?
I had the best time ever at Chicago Market Days this past summer! It was my first pride performance and the energy was awesome. I also met so many lovely people after my set.
Who would be 3 artists to headline your dream festival? And where would it be?
This is so hard! I’m gonna say The Chemical Bothers, Sza & Troye Sivan. That’s just how I feel in this moment. The list would be endless. I’m picturing it being in Japan.
Do you have any advice for a new artist wanting to follow your footsteps?
It’s never too late to start! If it’s something you really want to do you can make it happen.
Finally, what do you have lined up for the rest of 2024?
At the moment I’m planning on releasing an EP in June and then rolling a second one out starting September! It should be a great year. I’m looking forward to see what comes out of it.
