This EP, featuring short interludes between each main track, marks BIJOU’s last hurrah in the G house style before venturing into brighter horizons within the house genre.
Opened by a brief thirty second intro piece of vocal samples, the record kicks off with the instant burst of pulsing synth bass lines and female vocal samples on “Chit Chat,” a collaborative track with No/Me. Dropping with snapping hi hats and punching deep bass lines, the track serves up a dark and moody house groover that flows with the buzz of haunting synth toplines and epic rises towards ominous, gritty bass tones and thumping beats.
On “Mercy,” BIJOU links with Floria bass house DJ and producer AK RENNY to serves up a a wild house ride that immediately jumps with clapping drums, jarring synth leads and bold bass pulses capped by slick vocal lines. With an energy that compels you to move and groove, it’s the perfect display of BIJOU’s creativity and incredible sound design talent.
“Mobbing” features Dr. Fresch, Big Tone and A-Wax to deliver a brooding house instrumental with rapped vocal flows. Pure stomping energy and engaging vocal elements collide on this powerful explosion of intense sonic atmosphere and razor-sharp vocal flair.
Other highlights on the EP include closing track “All Over Me” featuring the talents of KLP, launching with building anticipation as the bright synth stabs and rattling percussive shots are led by fierce female vocals before erupting into pounding house rhythms that smack below. The harsh scrape of synth textures and rumble of bass drive the track forward to craft an epic finale to BIJOU’s sensational new EP.
As BIJOU looks towards the future, Lights Out takes the perfect snapshot between the past and the next chapter of his musical journey. Hinting at vocal-driven house records on the horizon, BIJOU is set to continue going from strength to strength and confirm his place as a visionary in the world of electronic music.
