Possible Oceans is the moniker of Los Angeles-based artist and producer Trevor O’Neill, who uses the project to bring to life his genre-bending solo vision with synths, guitars and punchy drums capped by smooth vocals. Drawing comparisons to the likes of Foals, The Horrors, Tame Impala and Soulwax, Possible Oceans has been winning over fans and tastemakers alike since starting the endeavour six years ago.
After years of contributing his instrumental work to various bands and working as a hired guitarist, he launched Possible Oceans in 2018 with the debut single “Deceiver,” followed by a series of singles and the first EP titled Phase Change over the next year. During the pandemic shutdown, O’Neill found sanctuary in his home studio and put together the first full-length Possible Oceans album, Death by Misadventure, co-produced with Jules de Gasperis.
The release secured extensive radio support and following a successful Los Angeles residency, the artist took the album on the road, linking up with some of his favourite local musicians to bring the songs to life on stage. Building on the momentum of the debut album, Possible Oceans kicks off the year with a string of singles, the latest being the brand new track titled “Disintegrate.”
Brought in by the hazy stutter of synth tones, the song launches with the snapping drive of the beat as a blend of synth and guitar sets up a psych-pop scene for the artist’s vocal leads to ride above. Spinning dancing melodic lines carrying poignant and reflective lyricism, the song builds with bold pulsing bass notes, bright synth textures and slick guitar licks to craft a spacey indie-galactic adventure.
Overflowing with catchy hooks and danceable energy, it’s a superb new jam that sees Possible Oceans follow up his debut album with a thrilling new chapter. Additionally, O’Neill is working on a collection of remixed dance floor versions of the new singles, collaborating with some of his closest musical associates.
