In the alternative dance music sphere, Ark Patrol, the alias of producer Brandon Gomez, continues to make an impact. Over the past few years, he’s remained consistent in his ability to bring exciting sounds and positive energy to his audience. His journey has been marked by not only musical triumphs but also personal challenges, including a battle with cancer in 2018.
In the face of adversity, he turned to his music as a source of strength and inspiration. Diagnosed with cancer, he pushed through the hardships, using his creative endeavours as a means of hope and strength. By the beginning of 2019, he embarked on a national tour, sharing stages with notable artists like Baynk and Big Wild. Despite the hurdles, his music continued to connect, earning him viral success on TikTok, placement in the lead trailer of HBO’s series Euphoria and a feature in the Microsoft Surface Earbuds spot.
For the last decade, he’s been sharing his thrilling sonic vision via multiple releases that have struck a chord with fans around the world. 2014 saw him make his entrance with the debut Ambition EP, unveiling his experimental dance music sound which he continued to expand on over the next six years. In 2020, he took a new direction and revealed an alternative electronic pop sound which was crystallised in his record titled Geode.
Now signed to Nettwerk Records, Ark Patrol steps into a new era as a pioneer of indie dance music. From his latest EP G, he presents the new single “Top of the World,” an uptempo and heartfelt track inspired by Ark Patrol’s brother. The song injects a sample of a close friend’s candid expression, creating a moving context set against an intoxicating dance beat.
Brought in by lo-fi synth textures as Ark Patrol’s sooth vocals ride above, the shuffle of the beat drives the danceable energy as he threads breezy melodies wrapped in light processing. Full of playful instrumental shots and vocal sample shots, “Top of the World” serves up an infectious sound of indie dance music. With a colourful arrangement, punchy beat and silky vocal performance, it’s a slick new outing that sees Ark Patrol continue to go from strength to strength as he explores new areas of his musical output.
Commenting on the single, he shares, “It’s talking about the idea of being high. My brother has been in and out of tough situations. The song is me trying to relate to him and saying, ‘I imagine what you’ve gone through but also I could never imagine the things you’ve gone through.'”
