Niro Knox is a mysterious figure in the rock music sphere, a singer, songwriter and guitar virtuoso stitching sonic tales on an enduring musical journey. Born in Israel but shaped by diverse experiences in Nigeria, Niro’s early connection with rock music became a catalyst for his artistic evolution.
His foray into music began with a desire to impress a girl, leading to the acquisition of his first guitar – a “shitty black Ibanez,” as he puts it. Fuelled by the raw power of Guns N’ Roses, he immersed himself in the world of rock, joining bands like Brain Damage and later forming Jimmi NonStop. However, a dislocated index finger redirected his musical focus towards traditional blues-playing, adding an emotional edge to his highly technical musicianship.
Last year he unveiled the latest chapter of his musical story, venturing out under his own name and releasing a string of six singles. Serving up his own brand of high-octane rock and roll music, he draws on his influences from the golden era of rock and filters it through his modern creative lens to deliver an epic sonic output.
Making his debut with “Hard Times,” the track launches with a filtered in guitar riff before erupting with lively chugged notes and pounding drums. Niro’s vocals lay down powerful lines to deliver a rousing sound packed full of energy and instantly memorable hooks in the chorus, signalling his new project with an explosive rock ride.
With “I Wont’ Let You Down,” he showcases the tender side of his songwriting with delicate vocals drifting over soft guitar notes. Building the tension with pattering drums, the song serves up a heartfelt rock ballad sound with mellow rhythm and superb vocals that flow from gentle moments to soaring heights as he injects his full rock sound with crunching guitars and slick lead licks.
“I Don’t Care” brings the energy back up with uptempo guitar riffs and punching drums setting up a thrilling sound as his compelling voice threads defiant lyricism via catchy melodies. Channeling his Guns N’ Roses inspirations, Niro invokes both Axl’s commanding vocals and Slash’s scorching bluesy solos to deliver an emphatic rock anthem.
On “I Don’t Believe You,” gritty guitars cut a moody sound as the strike of drums and expressive vocals collide to craft a stellar rock outing with bags of attitude. With his trademark sound of bold vocals and charged instrumentation, the chorus offers a burst of pure rock brilliance capped by a sensational guitar solo.
“Love Me Back” opens with a steady beat and layers of twanging guitars before dipping down in the verse to allow Niro to spin elegant lines. Building the impact back up with distorted guitar lines, the song rises to an incredible chorus of infectious vocal hooks and swaggering rock flair.
His most recent single, “Save Me” captures his engaging songwriting wrapped up in an invigorating rock sound that draws on the style’s retro roots while presenting it for a modern audience. Another slice of Niro Knox’s spectacular guitar-driven sound, the song confirms his ability to create captivating music with smooth ebb and flow while showcasing the consistency of his sound.
