Based in Los Angeles, Jakke is an artist who fuses together live instrumentation with electronic elements to create hypnotic hybrid sets. Initially making his name in the alternative rock scene, Jakke has since undergone a stark sonic evolution, now showcasing his talent as both a singer and songwriter. In 2022, Jakke unveiled his solo sonic vision with the debut single “Waves,” featuring Enjune.
Since then, he’s crafted an impressive catalogue of releases, collaborating with a range of artists and exploring new musical spheres. Always fearless in his approach, Jakke’s music is cutting edge yet daringly experimental, showcasing his sheer versatility as an artist. With early success landing him on top playlists like Spotify’s Chill Tracks and Apple Music’s New in Dance and New in Alternative, Jakke has proven his ability to flow across various genres.
His passion for sound led to a natural progression into dance music, where he continues his spirit of sonic innovation. Following the success of his debut EP How Do You Love and a string of remix singles, Jakke shared a 10-track remix album titled How Do You Love Remixes, featuring songs reimagined by producers from around the world. This expansion of his alt-rock sound into the realms of dance music marked a transformative moment in Jakke’s artistic journey.
Now, Jakke brings us his latest single, “Reckoning,” his first original dance recording in which he adds his own vocals. Blending atmospheric progressive house with a singer-songwriter approach, “Reckoning” carries emotional depth, oscillating between meditative calmness and euphoric highs. It speaks to those seeking soulful resonance, offering acknowledgment and empathy for those impacted by war, conflict and hardship around the world.
Started off with the soft patter of percussive shots as lightly delayed piano notes add warm colour to the mix, Jakke’s smooth vocals lay down elegant melodies via hushed delivery. The flutter of bright synth tones pepper the arrangement as his delicate voice rises on the swell of sonic energy before the drop brings the laid back clop of the full beat, resulting in a mellow dance pop experience full of intricate rhythm and alluring melodic writing.
Dropping the beat down to reveal the pulse of synth textures riding stretched out tones and gentle pitched vocal samples, the track develops with fluid ebb and flow as Jakke’s voice returns to thread heartfelt lyricism above. It’s a superb new outing that reveals a new direction for this talented artist, applying his vocals to his slick production, resulting in a catchy dance pop sound that’s impossible not to love.
Commenting on the single, he shares, “The message of this song came to me after feeling distraught by the horrors of war and suffering that I routinely saw online in the news and social media. Whether it was disturbingly tragic images from the Middle East, Eastern Europe, South America, or beyond, I felt overwhelmed with sadness and unsure of just how to respond. I wanted to acknowledge using my voice to what I saw and felt, without adding to all the noise online. It is my hope for this song to be a way to speak out to everyone going through such misfortune to say ‘I see you and I feel for you.’ I hope anyone else who hears this can bring awareness and empathy to those who do not have the luxury of safety and peace.”
