Downtempo Electronica from Laxcity

Originally hailing from Zambia and now based in Sheffield in the UK, Joshua Mbewe is a producer operating under the Laxcity alias to blurs the lines between electronica and storytelling. Having made his entrance with his debut eponymous EP and sophomore effort Introspection in 2017, Laxcity’s musical adventure has resulted in a spectacular sonic output over the years since.

His debut full-length album Catharsis, released the following year via the Majestic Casual Records imprint, put Laxcity on the map of exciting UK producers with his ability to blend orchestral influences with high-energy electronica. Since the start of 2022 when his debut show sold out in London, he’s brought his music to life in live settings while consistently impressing with his studio releases.

Dropping several well-received singles, remixes and records, released independently and on various labels, Laxcity has continued to win over fans around the world while racking up millions of streams of his music online. Now bringing us his first release of the year, he shares his brand new single titled “landing/homesick,” the latest display of his enthralling sound of downtempo electronica.

Opened by lush sweeps of airy synth textures as delicate notes and bleeps colour the canvas of the song, the punch of the kick and steady rhythm of the shaker hints at the beat-driven landscape that lies ahead. Drifting with a laid back, subtly punching beat, soft synth pulses and bright vocal sample cuts form a mesmeric listening experience full of soothing melodies and intricate sound design.

Crafting an immersive sound from start to finish, “landing/homesick” sees Laxcity serve up a stunning showcase of his creativity and talent as a producer. Once again demonstrating his ability to deliver enveloping electronic compositions, “landing/homesick” offers an exquisite musical world to get completely lost in.
