Coming not from the stages of traditional music venues, but from the digital sphere of the cryptocurrency community, The Plebs are an unconventional entity in the world of music. As a collective within the $PLEB token community, they navigate the intense creative battlefield of the blockchain, where memecoins vie for daily glory. In this relentless war, The Plebs find a new avenue for expression: releasing music.
Their debut outing, a cover of Survivor’s iconic anthem “Eye of the Tiger,” marks the inception of $PLEB Records, the collective’s venture into producing singles with fellow Plebs from their community. Crafted by TheMoonBoy06 and Angel44, this rendition of the classic hit delivers a bold reimagining for the digital age.
Retaining the punchy rock essence of the original, The Plebs infuse the track with a modern twist, employing stabby staccato instrumental synth tones and a marching beat that carries a digital pulse. The use of technology to deliver the vocals however is perhaps the most fascinating part of the whole production.
Initially experimenting with text-to-speech software, The Plebs found themselves faced with a dilemma, while it worked, the result felt impersonal. Enter Angel44’s vision to infuse the vocals with character. Through editing and AI voice modelling, they succeeded in creating a voice that distils the essence of the $PLEB character.
Offering a completely novel take on the beloved classic, the laid back, spoken word style of the vocals and updated lyrics sees The Plebs re-imagine the song in an entirely new way. Sitting at the crossroads between art and technology, The Plebs deliver a thought-provoking cover that showcases their creativity while adding more conversation around the $PLEB token and its community.
The cover is also paired with a animated music video that sees a band of pleb characters perform the song on stage, adding a colourful visual element to the release. The $PLEB token community has also expanded its creative reach with the creation of Kung Fu Pleb, a video game complete with original music and sound design.
