Born in Cincinnati, Ohio and raised in Carrollton in Kentucky, Jordan Wilson has cut his teeth over the years across both original and cover material, striking a balance between nostalgic rhythms and inventive songwriting. Learning to play guitar at the age of 14, Jordan’s early years were spent developing his talent in his room, at church and occasional talent shows. It wasn’t long before he was discovered by veteran musicians near his hometown, leading to his involvement with various Cincinnati artists and eventually forming his own band, the Jordan Wilson Coalition.
The Jordan Wilson Coalition, formed by musical virtuosos, has been together for seven years, infusing classic jams with creative spins across genres like blues, alternative rock, R&B, soul and funk. Jordan’s original melodies, feel-good guitar licks and tight drums, cast a soulful charm that keeps listeners moving and coming back for more.
Performing alongside leading acts like Patti Labelle, Erykah Badu and Thundercat, Jordan has proven himself as an exciting figure in the music scene, with shows that dazzle audiences and leave a lasting impression. Last year, Jordan Wilson introduced the world to the sound of the Jordan Wilson Coalition with the debut single “NOW” followed by sophomore track “Used To.” Now, he unveils his most ambitious studio project yet with the debut EP titled WEATHERED: THE EP.
WEATHERED is a fitting title for the EP, symbolising the resilience of the project amid challenges like the studio being struck by lightning and Jordan’s personal battles with insecurities and perfectionism. Despite these obstacles, the EP has emerged as a stunning showcase of perseverance and dedication to music.
Kicked off by the lively guitar strums on “Used To,” a breezy folk rock scene sets up Jordan’s buoyant vocal leads that thread upbeat melodies and storytelling lyricism above the grooving arrangement. Driven by the laid back strike of drums and bright guitar work capped by intricate lead flourishes, it’s a catchy jam that showcases Jordan Wilson’s knack for crafting charming music with a timeless sound.
“Will You Be Mine?” follows with mellow drum rhythms and playful guitar backing as Jordan’s soulful vocal performance serves up a delightful sound that’s impossible not to live. With “I Can’t,” an atmospheric and wistful tone takes hold as intricate guitar notes and the gentle patter of drums combine to craft a hypnotic and subtly melancholic sound. Laying down moving vocals carrying poignant lyrics, it’s a superb display of the range of the artist’s sound while maintaining his distinct musical imprint.
With “Bittersweet Goodbye,” soft guitar rhythms and tapping drums underpin Jordan’s smooth vocals to create a memorable folk pop experience that’s sure to put a smile on your face. Closing the EP with his debut single “NOW,” the march of drums and calm bounce of electric keys, pulsing bass notes and lightly gritty guitar sees Jordan spin engaging to form a grooving bluesy sound that reaches a crescendo with a superb electric guitar solo to perfectly conclude his sensational debut EP release.
