Based in Belgrade, producer Scasca is an artist whose music stitches together UK-influenced downtempo with subtle hints of lo-fi stylings. Influenced by artists like Bonobo, Four Tet, Burial and Catching Flies, Scasca’s soundscapes are intricate and engaging, composed of chopped vocal samples, slick drum sequences and textured organic elements.
The name Scasca, derived from the Russian word for “fairy tale,” perfectly reflects the enchanting vibe of his music. With each composition, Scasca invites listeners into spheres reminiscent of enchanted forests near the Gulf of Finland. Even his release artworks pay homage to vintage books with handcrafted illustrations, further enhancing the mystical allure of his musical output.
In 2020, Scasca made his debut with “Long Distance Call,” a single that earned him comparisons to acts like Mount Kimbie, Koreless and Tennyson. The track’s success paved the way for a series of subsequent singles, leading up to his latest effort; the release of his debut EP, Spring Station.
The EP’s opening track, “The Rain Will Wash It All Away,” offers the perfect snapshot of the latest chapter in his musical story. Balancing uptempo breakbeat rhythms with atmospheric instrumentation and vocal samples, the track offers an immersive and subtly energising soundscape to get completely lost in.
From the hushed rattle of tones and rising swell of intricate sonic textures, a dreamy scene is set up as smokey vocal samples drift through the mix. The delicate lo-fi snap of the beat injects a smooth energy as the layers of musical fabric weave together to craft a mesmeric listening experience. With silky melodies and hazy aesthetic driven by the danceable rhythms, “The Rain Will Wash It All Away” serve up a hypnotic sound that’s at once soothing and memorable.
