Hailing from Brighton in the UK, producer Lewis Broad-Ashman, working under the artistic banner Luga, has been quick to leave his mark on the scene and become an exciting artist on the rise. His sonic output cuts across various styles from future garage and downtempo to lo-fi, ambient and electronica, showcasing a unique sonic vision and a passion for all kinds of music.
He’s already become an exciting new figure in the chillstep music scene since unveiling his sound at the end of last year with his debut EP, Swimming Lanes. This year he’s proven himself as a prolific creator with incredible artistic momentum, already dropping multiple singles, two records and his recent sophomore EP, the three-track release called Become.
Lifted from the EP, he shares the opening track titled “Become us,” a slick downtempo electronic outing full of deep textures and intricate percussion. Wrapping the listener in an atmospheric sonic fabric, the track delivers an enveloping and hypnotic listening experience that’s soothing and energising in equal measure.
Brought in by the soft swell of distant synth pulses and airy notes tinged with a hazy lo-fi crackle, the gentle snap of the beat filters in to form a mellow dance music vibe. Hushed vocal samples add dashes of colour to the mix as the silky synth textures glide above the snap of the beat.
Peppered with intricate instrumental flourishes and flickers of abstract vocal touches, the deep bass tones and contrasting brightness of the top lines form a truly mesmeric sound. With a laid back danceable energy and immersive sound design, “Become us” delivers a spellbinding sound of downtempo electronic music that sees Luga continue to share his compelling musical creations at an astonishing rate. No doubt set to drop more music in the near future, we cant wait to see what Luga has in store for the rest of the year and beyond.
