Moontwin is the musical collaboration between singer-songwriter Maple Bee and Zac Kuzmanov, the founder of the alternative global radio station XRaydio. Originating from a long-standing friendship in London, the duo’s creative journey continued under changing circumstances when Zac relocated to his native Bulgaria after being diagnosed with ALS.
Despite the geographical and physical challenges, Moontwin strived to craft their music virtually, bridging the distance between Cornwall in the UK and Plovdiv in Bulgaria. First unveiling the Moontwin project back in 2018 with their debut single “Butterfly,” they dropped a string of tracks in the build up to their first full-length release in 2020, their debut fifteen-track album Moon TV.
Continuing to bring to life their shared sonic vision via several further singles, they now bring us their latest release with the brand new song titled “Tsunamical,” a bold snapshot of the latest chapter of their musical journey that takes listeners on a trip through themes of human endurance, commitment and love. The track distils the building blocks of their music; an exploration of profound emotions unfettered by time, space and physical limitations.
With a moody synth pop sound, Moontwin delivers a powerful and rhythmic sonic ride packed full of vibrant instrumentation, commanding vocal leads and memorable melodic writing. Ushered in by eerie vocal sweeps before Maple Bee’s expressive voice enters above the pounding beat and stabbing synth bass line, instantly crafting an intense alternative pop soundscape.
Flowing into a bright chorus, her vocals soar above the thump of the arrangement as delicate slide guitar flutters add dashes of colourful sonic touches to the sound. The perfect balance between darkness and light, “Tsunamical” sees Moontwin create a gripping sound that’s at once fierce and infectious while offering something entirely original.
Paired with the single is a music video that wraps colourful visualisations of Maple Bee performing the song through a vintage TV wrapped up in a grainy aesthetic to provide an engaging video accompaniment to the music. It’s a superb new release from this talented pair who continues to operate at the very highest level while offering exciting and unique new music.
