Reina Mora, originally hailing from Puerto Rico and now based in Los Angeles, is a singer-songwriter whose music is deeply rooted in personal experience and a commitment to social causes. With a background that includes overcoming the challenges of being a homeless teen in LA and dealing with estranged family relationships, Reina Mora channels her life’s trials and triumphs into her poetic and meaningful lyrics.
Her music distils her resilience and determination to make the world a better place. Beyond her music, she volunteers for organisations like UNICEF, Puerto Ricans in Action, and You Matter, demonstrating her mission to helping the less fortunate and raising awareness for critical issues. As a member of the SONA steering committee, she also fights for songwriters’ rights, unapologetically supporting women’s and LGBTQ rights.
Reina Mora first emerged on the music scene with a cover of “Last Christmas” in 2016, and since then, she has released a series of original tracks. Her latest single, “Weeds,” is a deeply personal song released on her late mother’s birthday.
Although the song is not about her mother, the release date is a tribute to her mother’s steadfast belief in her artistic dreams. “Weeds” was penned during a painful divorce and reflects the heartache and emotional turmoil of giving everything to someone and feeling left with nothing. Produced by Dylan Emmet, the track blends ethereal sounds with powerful vocals, creating a hauntingly beautiful anthem perfect for the June gloom of summer.
Flowing from delicate piano tones, Reina’s rich vocals enter to spin moving melodies with emotive passion, setting up a truly compelling listening experience. Rising with the swell of instrumentation, the chorus delivers a powerful moment where the artist’s feelings are felt in every note she sings, resulting in a powerful song built on the steady strike of drums and emphatic arrangement.
Paired with the single is a music video edited and directed by Exxy that sees Rein Mora first performing the song in a desert location in black and white. Bursting to life with colour from the first chorus, the video reflects the metaphorical lyricism to deliver a spectacular visual accompaniment for the music.
