Tel Aviv-based singer and producer Yali Blank is a truly unique artist in the electronic pop scene. With a background in classical piano from her conservatory days and a deep understanding of composition, production and sound design, Yali brings a sophisticated yet experimental touch to her music.
Overcoming a childhood battle with bone cancer, she channels her experiences into her art, defying the limitations imposed by her disability to deliver an enthralling creative output. Her strength and determination shine through in both her live performances and recorded works, winning over fans and tastemakers around the world in the process.
Her journey in music began early, with songwriting and piano compositions that showcased her budding talent. Her debut EP, Why Do Flowers Mean Love? released in 2019, marked her first significant foray into the studio, followed by the single “Bored” in 2021. Taking a brief hiatus from sharing her original sound, this year she returned with brand new material, releasing the song “Magnetized,” the lead single and title track from her brand new four-track EP.
The Magnetized EP sees Yali Blank distil a powerful exploration of her own personal battles and triumphs, resulting in a listening experience that’s at once memorable and meaningful. Kicked off by the hit title track “Magnetized,” soft synth pulses and Yali’s smooth vocals combine to craft an intimate synth pop soundscape that gradually swells with playful instrumental shots before the snapping beat launches an infectious chorus of addictive vocal hooks. It’s a slick pop cut that’s catchy and danceable, wrapped up in exquisite sound design.
“I’ll Let It Go,” injects a slick alternative R&B vibe into the mix with sultry vocal leads drifting over shimmering instrumental dashes and the pulsing groove of the beat. Threading more intoxicating melodic leads above a vibrant arrangement of constantly shifting textures, it’s another dance-focused pop outing that puts Yali Blank’s songwriting talent and production flair on full display.
With “Nobody 2 Luv” Yali casts a rattling sound of thumping beats and buzzing instrumental elements capped by her compelling vocal leads. With a glitching energy and pitched vocal shots adding to the sonic fabric, her bright vocal leads spin up a track that’s at once enveloping and energising, building with bold future bass-esque synths.
Closing the release with “Dancing In The Sun,” hazy synth stretches and intricate staccato stabs underpin her tender vocal performance before the strike of drums brings in a bouncy pop outing. Brimming with jumpy rhythms and colourful instrumentation, the track provides one final dose of Yali Blank’s irresistible pop charm that makes the Magnetized an impeccable EP from start to finish.
