Born and raised in South Texas, Whitney Miller has always been a an exciting presence in the world of entertainment. From winning beauty pageant titles like Miss Texas and Miss United States in 2012, to stepping into the world of MMA fighting and becoming a kickboxing commentator, her journey has been anything but ordinary. Add to that her role as a well-known podcaster and it’s clear that Miller thrives on making an impact in multiple fields.
Now, evolving into a genre-fusing rock and country artist under the name WHIT, she’s been making a name in the Nashville music scene with her sonic output. WHIT’s story is one of determination and resilience which is reflected in her music and bold, high-energy approach. Her sound is a collision of rock’s edge energy country’s soul, delivered with the confidence of someone who’s lived multiple lives already.
First unveiling her musical vision in 2022, she dropped her debut single “Diamond Country” which she followed up with three further tracks last year. This year, she’s been releasing more music in the build up to her highly anticipated brand new eponymous debut EP, WHIT. Featuring four tracks, including her previously released singles “Black and Blue” and “Ready Or Not,” the EP provides the perfect snapshot of her original sound.
Opened by “Black and Blue,” a deep soundscape of acoustic guitar plucks, pattering percussion and airy sonic textures create a hazy atmosphere as WHIT’s compelling voice glides above. Launching into an explosive rock-focused sound, charging guitars and driving drums collide as WHIT’s commanding vocals serve up infectious melodic leads to deliver a truly anthemic sound.
“Go To Hell” erupts straight into a storming sound of crunching guitars, stomping drums and belted vocalisations before settling into a smooth verse of gentle guitars and tapped percussion capped by country-inflected vocals. Flowing through raucous bursts of epic rock energy and catchy vocal leads, it’s another sensational dose of WHIT’s gripping sound.
Next up, “Grass Is Greener” injects a more reflective sound as snapping drums provide a smooth groove as her soulful vocal performance hovers above the slick arrangement to cast a superb display of her songwriting flair, wrapped up in an energising sound and stellar production. Closing the EP with “Ready Or Not,” her country influences shine as the downtempo rhythm and moody twangs of guitar form a smokey aesthetic. With another showcase of her enthralling vocals soaring above an enveloping blend of guitars and drums, it’s a spectacular finale to her incredible debut EP.
