Originally coming from Hong Kong, Amelie Jat is a singer-songwriter who distils her most personal emotions into genre-blurring pop anthems. With her background in drumming, a passion she discovered at the age of three, she’s since become a talented artist blending her love for music and dance into a sound that’s personal yet wholly relatable. Now in her 20s, Amelie spends most of her time in London, where she works on new material when she’s not touring, delivering live performances that have dazzled audiences across both sides of the Atlantic.
Amelie first introduced herself to the world in 2019 with her debut single “Stars in the Sunlight,” a track that perfectly captured the intimacy of bedroom pop production. Her sound immediately struck a chord, and she quickly followed up with a string of well-received singles, EPs and full-length records. Over the years, Amelie has undergone stark musical shifts, moving from the delicate subtleties of lo-fi bedroom pop into the energetic, rebellious world of pop punk.
In 2022 she embraced this new direction, linking up with five-time Grammy-nominated producer James McMillan to release a trio of pop-punk singles, “I’M OUT,” “Therapy” and “Electric Butterflies.” These releases marked a bold leap forward, as she shed her softer sound for something punchier, sharper and fiercely catchy. Last year, Amelie’s album for the plot saw her venturing further into her pop punk influences, while also maintaining the emotionally honest, diary-like lyricism that had become her trademark.
Her latest single, “rollercoaster,” continues this exciting trajectory and gives fans a window into what to expect from her throughout next year. Once again, Amelie has worked with James McMillan, whose slick production brings the track to life in a way that feels at once anthemic and intimate. Drawing comparisons to pop icons like Maisie Peters and Taylor Swift, “rollercoaster” is packed with energy, serving up a shimmering pop sound that’s infectious and danceable in equal measure.
Featuring zappy bass stabs, punchy drums and intricate ebb and flow that sees the arrangement flow from dreamy verses to upbeat choruses, “rollercoaster” serves up a memorable jam that’s impossible not to love. Alongside the original, the song is now reimagined by vibrant remixes from Until Dawn and Morlando in a new four-track remix EP. With Until Dawn’s version, the track is reframed by bright synth tones and thumping rhythms to amplify the dance-focused aesthetic of the original. Morlando also takes the track and adds an electronic spin with uptempo rhythms and pulsing synth textures to deliver a stunning new version of the track.
As Amelie Jat prepares to hit the stage in both the UK and USA next year, “rollercoaster” provides a thrilling taste of what she’s got in store. Her incredible knack for fusing heartfelt storytelling with pop punk adrenaline ensures she’s sure to continue winning over fans around the world and we can’t wait to see what she’s got lined up next.
