Coming out of the German city of Hamburg, newcomers Baydream have swiftly earned a reputation as one of the most exciting indie acts to watch. Known for their genre-breaking approach, Baydream blurs the lines between indie rock, dream pop, alternative hip hop and electronic music, serving up a unique sonic output that’s both emotive and memorable.
With their music gaining traction across various magazines, radio shows and playlists, Baydream has captured the attention of fans and tastemakers alike, establishing themselves as a bright light in Hamburg’s music landscape. They first unveiled their sound In August last year via the debut single “Peasants,” which was quickly followed up by sophomore track “The Flame” before their first EP, Cosmos arrived in September.
This year they’ve showed no signs of slowing down, dropping a string of singles and several EPs while winning over listeners around the world. Now they bring us their latest release with their brand new eight-track EP titled Punk House.
The EP is an epic fusion of indie rock, pop, hip hop, soul, electronica and post punk stylings, creating an infectious energy from start to finish. Gritty guitar riffs meet smooth beats and soulful melodies, resulting in a listening experience that’s as diverse as it is cohesive while exploring themes of reflection, love and the inner conflicts that define life. Brimming with poetic lyrical writing and a thrilling fusion of genres, the new EP is the latest example of just why the hype around this new outfit is so justified.
Started off with the soft tones of “Forever,” a smooth groove underpins the mellow shimmer of instrumentation as hushed vocals float above to add airy melodies. With a mix of pattering and snapping drums, delicate string tones and building energy, it’s a superb jam that perfectly kicks off the new record.
“Blockbuster” jumps with splashing drums and guitar rhythms to set up a vibrant indie outing that deftly balances driving energy with laid back vocal elements. “Seasons | Powers” slows things down with a dreamy sound of softly tapped drums and mesmeric guitar plucks capped by whispered vocals to form a hazy indie pop sound full of gentle melodies and alluring textures.
Other highlights on the EP include tacks like “Drug” with its bright disco-inflected charm that sees upbeat instrumentation and danceable beats collide beneath Baydream’s trademark breezy vocal style resulting in an instantly catchy sound. Closing the release with “Water Find Fire,” the intricate shuffle of drums and fuzzy guitar tones combine to deliver a slick instrumental piece to perfectly conclude Baydream’s sensational new EP, a release which continues to see them go from strength to strength on their exciting rise as a must watch act. Keep up to date with Baydream here.
