Cardiff-born and Welsh-speaking singer-songwriter Lily Beau is walking her own path in the world of music, blending personal storytelling with a wide range of influences that span jazz, pop, folk and more. Growing up in a household filled with jazz records and a passion for cinema, Lily began writing her own songs at just 12 years old. By 16, her passion for music led her to London, where she attended East London Arts and Music to develop her talent while simultaneously diving into a five-year career in A&R.
Though she was building a career behind the scenes, Lily never lost sight of her personal musical aspirations. Throughout the years, she continued to develop her own sound, performing Welsh-language songs and gracing the stages of prestigious venues such as the Troubadour, Royal Festival Hall and Wales Millennium Centre. She’s also opened for artists like Jack Savoretti and Joel Culpepper, experiences that have helped shape her journey and confirm her status in the live music circuit.
In 2022, Lily expanded her creative portfolio by stepping into the world of acting, starring in the Welsh Bafta-winning film Y Sŵn and leading the Bafta-nominated TV show Y Goleudy. This multi-talented artist seems to thrive in any creative space she occupies, but music remains her true passion, as showcased by her long-awaited debut EP, Little Old Me.
Little Old Me opens an exciting new chapter for Lily Beau, capturing the journey of a young woman through love, quarter-life crises and the complex process of personal healing, linking up with producer Nate Williams last year to bring the songs to life. Blending pop, folk and singer-songwriter styles, “These songs have been my therapy. From writing about childhood crushes to dealing with the realities of adulthood, every note and lyric is a piece of me,” she shares.
The EP’s intimate and reflective tone invites listeners into Lily’s world, where themes of unrequited love and growing up are explored with honesty and heart. From the intimate piano-driven sound and elegant vocals of the emotive opening song “Dream” to the upbeat bouncy pop sound of title track “Little Old Me” to the bold anthemic punch and infectious vocals of the epic final song “Fuck Your Expectations,” the EP delivers a dazzling snapshot of Lily Beau’s diverse and thoroughly enjoyable sound.
From her Welsh roots to the global stage, Lily’s music offers an honest, soulful reflection of life’s ups and downs, marking her as a thrilling new name in the alternative pop world. Little Old Me is just the beginning for this talent on the rise and there’s no doubt that Lily Beau’s future is as bright as the songs she creates.
Commenting on the EP, she offers, “Little Old Me is really significant to me as it marks my musical debut in English. I’ve had some of these songs in my notebooks since I was 17, and I can’t wait for them to be heard outside of my four bedroom walls.”
