Danish singer-songwriter NikoCorlin has been making an impacy with her profoundly personal and alluring alternative pop sound, stitching together themes of self-discovery, societal struggles and the realities women face in the music industry. Since her debut single “Swimming in Horizon” in 2021, she’s dazzled listeners with her reflective lyricism and silky melodies.
The following year, she continued to impress with the release of her first full-length album, Ocean Thread. With a clear artistic vision and a desire to explore challenging themes, NikoCorlin has continued to evolve her sound, confronting both personal and universal struggles.
Reflecting on the time after releasing Ocean Thread, NikoCorlin shared the creative process that shaped her latest work, “Last winter, I went to New York after releasing my debut album. I locked myself in a small room for five weeks to write,” she reveals. In that period of isolation, away from the distractions of the outside world, she was able to fully confront her self-doubt and immerse herself in her music. For NikoCorlin, this period of solitude wasn’t just an escape, but an opportunity to drown out the noise and zero in on her own voice. The result is her latest project, a five-song EP titled If You Can Dream It, which was recently released via the Carrie Management imprint.
If You Can Dream It showcases NikoCorlin’s knack for timeless and unfiltered songwriting, diving into themes of ambition, fragile relationships and the pervasive sexism that continues to plague the music industry. Written during her time in Brooklyn, each track reflects an emotional journey through the realities that so many women in the industry face today.
In crafting If You Can Dream It, Corlin enlisted the help of a talented team of collaborators, including Julius Amdisen, Milo Duckert Aurvig and Emil Emborg. On naming the release, she explains, “The title is a reference to the idea that as long as you can dream and believe in it, it will succeed. Dreams can also be the ones that hurt us the most if they don’t come true, but they remain our driving force. They are the one thing no one can take away from us.”
From the gentle atmosphere and emotive vocals with hushed delivery on the first song “I’m Home I’m Here” to the infectious beat-driven sound of “Late To The Party” to the elegant arrangement and soft vocals of the finale “On My Own,” with her first EP, NikoCorlin’s serves up a moving and utterly mesmeric listening experience from start to finish. Commenting on the release, she offers, “The five songs on this EP explore the different facets of being an artist, especially as a woman in the music industry. Some tracks have an intimate, introspective vibe, while others are more outspoken, inviting listeners to dance through their insecurities.”
Adding, “I worked with simple compositions, large synth surfaces, and multiple vocal tracks that capture a range of emotions—from dry and sorrowful to searching and clear. The expression was meant to encapsulate the feeling of being lonely in the crowd, the chaos, and the music, in an attempt to find one’s place as an artist.”
