Thutmose is an artist who offers a unique fusion of cultural influences that’s connected with audiences around the world. Born in Lagos, Nigeria and raised in Brooklyn since the age of nine, Thutmose’s music is a blend of his African roots and the energy of his adopted home. This crossroads of Afrobeat rhythms and house beats has become the trademark of his sound, creating a memorable musical output that reflects his personal experiences and his broader global perspective.
Thutmose’s rise to fame is built squarely on his relentless creativity and innovative approach. He first captured the world’s attention with a viral freestyle over Kendrick Lamar’s “HUMBLE.,” with the breakout moment quickly leading to bigger opportunities including being handpicked by Billie Eilish to support her on her sold-out Don’t Smile at Me tour.
First sharing his own original sound back in 2016 via his collaboration with Warren Xclnce on “Mississippi Masala,” he’s since delivered an incredible catalogue of releases across multiple singles and records as well as being the only independent artist on the Grammy-nominated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse soundtrack. His track “Memories” not only earned him a Grammy nod but also positioned him as a must watch artist in the fiercely competitive music industry.
With over 400 million streams and more than one million monthly listeners on Spotify, Thutmose’s global appeal is astonishing. His extensive list of collaborations include the likes of Rema, Erykah Badu, Steve Aoki and Pink Sweat$. Despite his growing success, Thutmose remains grounded in his mission to blend his cultural heritage with his experiences in the USA, crafting music that is at once profoundly personal and relatable.
Now he brings us his latest release with his brand new EP titled Heaven On Earth, a six-track project that blends Afrobeat influences with the energy of house music, reflecting his dual upbringing in Nigeria and Brooklyn. Tracks from the EP celebrate both life’s highs and lows, encouraging listeners to embrace their journey and recognise the beauty that can be found even in the most challenging moments.
Opened by “Lagos 2 Vegas,” Thutmose’s smooth vocal leads drift over airy instrumental textures to craft an alluring slice of alternative R&B vibes. Jumping with the lively beat, the track blends danceable energy with catchy vocal vocals to deliver an exciting slice of the artist’s cutting edge sonic vision. “Champagne on Ice” flows with processed vocalisations before the pattering groove of the beat and delicate piano touches underpin his expressive vocal performance to craft a mellow and infectious pop-focused jam.
With “No More Goodbyes,” he links with Sofiya Nzau on a mesmeric sound of bouncy bass lines, atmospheric instrumental textures and compelling vocal leads spinning instantly catchy hooks. “Front and Center” is brought in by punchy percussive shots as rhythmic vocal stabs glide above to forge an invigorating soundscape brimming with gripping rhythm and slick vocals.
Collaborating with Roku145 on “Mo Hennesy,” the two artists serve up a bass heavy track that’s sure to light up dancefloors around the world with its blend of bright vocals and thumping beats. Closing the EP with lead single “Ballon D’or,” a deep club ready sound flows with commanding vocal delivery as the pulse of bass lines and rattle of jumpy drums collide to cast a stunning finale to the artist’s sensational new EP.
Commenting on the release, Thutmose shares, “This project is about staying optimistic in a world that is always unpredictable. Life should be a celebration and some of us don’t always see the beauty in it. A lot of us might feel like we’re going through hell or even if you’ve been through hell, I believe you can still experience heaven on earth. It’s a reminder to look at the bright side because perception is reality so I want to help influence people to look at life that way. Most of us can relate to the struggle, but my goal is to inspire the future generations of people that look like me to dream bigger just like those that came before me did.”
