Based out of Ottawa and Toronto, miufly is an indie pop artist with a highly original and memorable sound that takes inspiration from artists such as Billie Eilish and Caroline Polachek. Balancing the roles of vocalist, songwriter and producer, she creates a fusion of pop and electronic music with a focus on poignant lyrical writing.
Combined with her background in choral music, her artistic output is uniquely expressive and stylistically versatile. miufly is developing her talents further through music studies in Ottawa and London, forging the skills she needs to explore and expand on her already innovative and well-received sound.
Making her entrance at the end of last year, she unveiled her highly original sound with her debut single “Spring,” a song that delivered a powerful introduction to her musical world. Spotlighting her DIY production abilities and her skill for capturing emotional complexity, the song revolved around themes of personal growth and reclaiming one’s confidence, firmly planting miufly on the map as an artist who could channel challenging experiences into something relatable and therapeutic.
Following this impactful debut, miufly has continued to develop her sound, bringing us her latest release with her brand new sophomore single titled “What I Told U.” The track was created in her home studio, where she crafted a dream pop-infused piece that’s subtly moody yet with a warmth that runs throughout.
Showcasing a new side to her alluring sonic vision, “What I Told U” pairs soft pattering rhythms with immersive instrumentation capped by her smooth vocal leads as she stitches reflective lyricism into the laid back alternative pop sound. Jumping in with the steady pulse of kick tones, miufly’s airy voice glides above the gentle shimmer of silky textures, layering up her vocals as the quiet rumble of percussion rises and drops out to leave moments of drifting instrumental elements and enchanting vocals.
Filtering echoes of angst through her lyrics, wrapped up in an elegant delivery, “What I Told U” sees miufly go from strength to strength on her superb second outing. Building on her compelling sound while offering something new, it’s a charming sound that deftly balances darkness with brightness to craft an engaging sound from start to finish.
Commenting on the single, she shares, “I wanted to do something that emotionally contrasted my previous release, and embraced the uncomfortable. This song is about being okay with having no idea what’s happening 95% of the time, and just going with it. It’s a bit more edgy, a bit sexy, and I hope listeners get lost in the atmosphere.”
