Born to Lebanese-Palestinian and Scottish heritage, Salwa’s journey as a multidisciplinary artist reflects her diverse background. Raised in Beirut and later trained at London’s prestigious Drama Centre, she’s applied her talents across acting, modelling, filmmaking, poetry and songwriting. While her artistic pursuits are varied, music has always been Salwa’s truest calling; a space where her various influences and personal tales come to life.
Salwa’s genre-fluid sound folds in elements of electronic pop, disco, prog rock and jazz to create an instantly catchy and highly original sound. Tackling themes of identity, mental health and the rollercoaster of urban life, her music channels the highs and lows of her experiences, including her journey as a bipolar woman living in the UK’s capital.
First sharing her sonic vision in 2021, she released her debut single “Oh! Lover,” following up with her sophomore outing “Fuck Boy” the next year. In February last year, she dropped her most ambitious release to date with her debut full-length record, Late at Night, featuring her breakout single “Coconut” which landed on Spotify Arabia’s Fresh Finds playlist and won over fans and tastemakers around the world.
One of the album’s standout tracks, “Ghost You,” perfectly captures Salwa’s fusion of electro-pop with spacey disco influences which frame her whimsical storytelling. The song explores themes of nightlife, unwanted attention and reclaiming power with bold, defiant energy. Now, Salwa brings us the premiere of the song’s music video, serving up a slick visual pairing for the music.
The single pays homage to Salwa’s formative influences, including Justice’s “D.A.N.C.E.” and Caravan Palace’s “Mighty.” The song features a pulsating backbone of choral vocals, snapping beats, grooving basslines and woozy synth textures, all capped by Salwa’s commanding vocal performance, crafting an infectious synth pop jam.
Directed by Ted Clarke, the visuals for “Ghost You” explore the duality of nightlife; the glossy, electric allure of its beginnings juxtaposed with the harsh realities that often emerge by night’s end. Drawing inspiration from 80s gym auditoriums and the dreamlike textures of Super 8 footage, the video captures what Salwa calls “nightmare nostalgia.” The result is an atmospheric journey through neon-lit spaces and shadowy corners, perfectly echoing the song’s themes and retro sonic aesthetic.
Speaking about the inspiration behind “Ghost You,” Salwa shares, “The idea came when I was stuck in a frustrating WhatsApp chat and said to myself, ‘Sometimes I just really want to ghost you.’ It evolved into a track about city nightlife, unwanted attention, and reclaiming agency. I wanted this song to be a bold, unapologetic anthem—a loud, defiant fuck off to men who don’t know when to back off. It’s for every woman who’s felt that anger and needed to own it.”
