Based in Norway, springwell. is a new project from a composer and artist making minimal ambient soundscapes. First sharing his sound earlier this year, in September he released the debut single “petals,” which was quickly followed up by singles two and three.
Now bringing us his latest release, he shares “dvala,” the fourth single in this journey of meditative musical exploration. The track’s title, borrowed from the Swedish word for “hibernation,” nods to the quiet depth of the music, taking listeners into a sonic cocoon, where time seems to slow and the outside world fades away.
The composition is led by a tender piano melody, each note instilled with a sense of purpose and calm. Its gentle cadence feels like a lullaby, guiding the listener into a space of solitude while beneath the piano’s delicate refrain, a soothing drone hums steadily, adding subtle movement and texture to the piece. The interplay between these two elements creates a soundscape that feels at once expansive and intimate, capturing the hushed stillness of winter or the reflective pause of a deep breath.
Gently fading in, the delicate plink of hushed piano, wrapped in the soft lo-fi of crackling aesthetic is met by the stretch of warm bass elements, casting an immersive and soporific listening experience. The sparse touch of melody and soothing wash of sonic textures creates a truly hypnotic and thoroughly soothing sound that allows you to get completely lost in this stunning composition which delivers just as much impact with through its notes as it does with the space between them.
Though springwell. is a relatively new name, the project’s releases reveal a seasoned understanding of ambient music’s capacity to connect on an emotional level. Having revealed the first chapter of his musical story over the last few months, we can’t wait to see what comes next for this new artist in 2025 and beyond.
