Based in Düsseldorf, Cris Cap is a talented musician and producer creating a compelling blend of soulful R&B, jazz and pop music. Drawing inspiration from timeless artists like Steely Dan and Stevie Wonder, his music pairs the nostalgia of 70s and 80s grooves with a modern aesthetic for today’s audience. As a pianist since childhood, Cris’s artistic output is firmly based in melody and harmony, nurtured by a family environment of pop and soul influences.
At the heart of his sound is his beloved Fender Rhodes Mk1 piano, a faithful companion since 1985 which has played a vital role in shaping his musical vision, anchoring his compositions with its warm tones. With lyrics exploring themes of love, life and cherished memories, Cris Cap creates music that connects with listeners on a personal level while inviting them to groove along to his infectious rhythms.
First unveiling his sound in 2020 with his debut single “Brighter Day” with Anna Teers, he’s since shared a string of well-received songs and EPs. Now, with his upcoming debut full-length record on the horizon, he brings us his latest release with his new two-track EP titled Live Like My Cat.
The title track, “Live Like My Cat,” draws inspiration from his feline companion, Boomer, a beloved member of the family for many years. The idea of temporarily trading places with his cat sparked Cris’s imagination, resulting in a whimsical yet soulful exploration of the carefree and contemplative life of a feline.
Laying down a shimmering soul pop jam, the playful bounce of rhythm and soulful vocal performance threading catchy melodic hooks into the upbeat sonic fabric combine to craft a lighthearted and instantly memorable outing. Above the tapped swing of the beat, grooving basslines, warm piano chords, swaggering lead guitar licks and stunning Rhodes textures, Cris’ alluring vocal soar to deliver a truly charming outing.
Accompanying the lead single is the song “Howlin’ At The Moon,” offering another uplifting and soulful bop packed full of delightful melodic writing and smooth rhythms to serve up another exquisite slice of Cris Cap’s timeless pop sound. As he gets ready to drop his first album, we can’t wait to see what this exciting artist has in store for the rest of 2025 and beyond.
