Hailing from the Caribbean island of Antigua, Craigology is a composer and multi-instrumentalist whose music blends smooth jazz, reggae, calypso, hip hop and classical influences. Having developed his sonic vision since the age of 13, his compositions are designed to evoke reflection, relaxation and inspiration. A skilled pianist, bassist and guitarist, Craigology also thrives in digital production, using computer-based recording technologies to bring his artistic output to life and when not immersed in his home studio, he enjoys meeting people, engaging in thoughtful discussions and rowing, all of which feed into his passion for music.
Channelling the approach of artists like Max Richter, Ólafur Arnalds, Jóhann Jóhannsson and Ludovico Einaudi, Craigology creates immersive compositions that bridge the gap between neoclassical, ambient, electronic smooth jazz and orchestral music. His latest release comes with his brand new five-track EP titled Secrets from a Gemstone, a collection that showcases his refined touch, offering a cinematic journey through delicate melodies, atmospheric textures and soulful harmonies.
The EP features three previously released singles; “Regenerate,” “Forward Direction” and “Eclosion (Emerging from the Chrysalis),” alongside two brand-new compositions, “Rain Drops” and the title track, “Secrets from a Gemstone.” Opening track “Rain Drops” delivers an intricate solo piano arrangement that balances moments of playfulness and romance, shifting between joy and reflection.
The title track, “Secrets from a Gemstone,” carries a sense of mystery and enchantment, capturing the essence of uncovering hidden beauty, much like a gemstone waiting to be discovered. Meanwhile, “Regenerate” offers a poignant piano-driven composition that embodies resilience and rebirth, making it the perfect accompaniment to moments of personal growth and transformation.
Bringing optimism and drive, “Forward Direction” distils ideas of perseverance and progress, symbolising the light at the end of the tunnel with its uplifting melodies. Closing the EP, “Eclosion” takes inspiration from the transformation of a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis, presenting a breathtakingly delicate yet powerful reflection on new beginnings and self-discovery.
With Secrets from a Gemstone, Craigology presents a timeless work of dazzling instrumental music, putting his creativity and musicianship panache on full display. Full of beautiful moments of memorable melodic writing and brought to life by his stunning performance talent, wrapped in spellbinding arrangements, Secrets from a Gemstone offers a charming listening experience that’s impossible not to love.
