Fleanger is an electronic artist who’s been on the rise over the last seven years. Originally from Israel and now based in Berlin, the musician and producer has made a significant impact in the music world, fusing deep emotion with exquisite sound design to deliver immersive musical moments. His moniker, a creative play on the ‘flanger’ effect, echoes throughout his productions, with the added ‘E’ signifying his connection to electronic music.
Constantly developing his sonic output, Fleanger is an artist in perpetual evolution, performing at selected venues around the world while shaping a musical identity that’s entirely his own. From an early age, he found himself disconnected from his peers, leading him to seek creative outlets as a means of self-expression. He first explored visual arts through drawing and graffiti before discovering the piano, an instrument that became the catalyst of his musical journey.
Fleanger sees himself as a musician above all else, believing in the transformative power of sound to instils deep emotions and connect with listeners on a personal level. His compositions are carefully crafted pieces that take cues from a vast array of influences from classical greats like Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert to acts like Pink Floyd and Depeche Mode. Since making his entrance back in 2018 with his debut single “Leave Me Alone,” he’s since delivered an incredible catalogue of releases across multiple well-received singles, EPs, collaborations and his first full-length record, So Am I, which landed in 2020.
Now, Fleanger brings us his latest offering, the Soul Logic EP, released via the MIR MUSIC imprint. Drawing inspiration from artists like RY X, Monolink, Black Coffee, &ME, Tale of Us and Ben Böhmer, this release presents a stunning balance melody, groove and emotion to create an enthralling listening experience. The EP’s main track, featuring DJ and producer NIRØ and R&B singer Romy Dya, frames themes of love, longing and emotional contradictions, offering a profoudnly personal yet relatable exploration of human connection.
Jumping straight in by the steady pulse of kick, plucked instrumental tones and rhythmic shaker, a smooth groove is met with whispers of airy vocal samples as the deep rumble of bass glides in. Romy’s soulful voice enters to spin mesmeric vocal lines above the shifting synth-based arrangement, casting a spellbinding soundscape of pop-focused writing and hypnotic electronic aesthetic. Flowing with intricate rise and fall, the downtempo energy propels the track with enchanting vibes to deliver an engrossing dance pop sound from start to finish.
Paired with the lead track comes four remixes, with Eyal Rabia serving up a stripped back take on the original, injecting bright synth textures and mellow percussion strikes to reimagine the track in a completely new light. Peter Soul brings a rhythm-focused approach, pairing bouncy beats and grooving bass lines to craft an infectious sound with stabby piano elements and wide-panned vocal layers.
Next up, Marco & Dov forges a dark beat-driven energy where pitched down vocal shots hover above the moody synth stutters before Romy’s lead voice floats in to add dazzling melodic flutters to the mix. Scopelyser’s remix closes the EP with a trance-inflected sound, delivering a spectacular sound of spliced vocal elements and driving energy.
